we just finished up our wine making class this month. i wish we could have made a dry wine (i'm not a big fan of sweet), but concord is more suitable for a sweeter batch.
luke got really into it & plans to start brewing some beer & wine. he even made these cute labels with a block print. i guess you can just start callin' us the river valley fermentation freemans.
It is mid-day. I was about to go make lunch when I looked out and a grouse was making lunch from our holly berries.
My lunch has been delayed a few minutes by taking a picture.

Weekly Them Challenge-DIY Tool
Once the cooler weather is here Stu and I will once again get out our Sauerkraut Making Tools. Each item is a tool in the process. The Crock Pot will house the cabbage so it can ferment. The weights will keep the kraut pressed so the water comes out of it and it stays submerged. The Wooden Hammer will be used to pound the kraut to extract the liquid from it before we put it into the Crock Pot. It's a long and very laborious process, but there's nothing quite like Home Made! I have to say a word about the Bubbies Sauerkraut. It's probably the best tasting and closest to home made I've ever tasted, but I still like ours better :)

and the food truck adventures continue. this time it was the crepes bonaparte truck which serves... yup, you guessed it... french crepes! i had actually never heard of this truck until the day of. me and the boys of TWP had an event to photograph and one of the guys wanted to hit up this truck after. lucky for us our event was in the OC and the truck was in downtown fullerton. i gotta say it was pretty good and the prices were decent too.

I decided to try my hand at making some hard cider this year. I’ve been making my own apple cider vinegar for a few years and I’ve heard it’s better if you start with hard cider. Generally to make my vinegar I simply pour cider into a big glass jar, cover with cheesecloth and let it sit for a few months until it’s vinegar, easy as that. I do buy unpasteurized cider from a small local press, so it contains the natural yeasts in it that ferment it and then turn it into vinegar.
