One gem that cannot be overlooked in the St Augustines church or Augustinerkirche, the red sandstone exterior and its beautiful display of statuary barely gives one an indication of the beauty behind its doors and is passed by easily on your march down the Augustinerstrasse.
The outside ornamentation essentially is a story of the coronation of Mary as the queen of heaven by Nikolaus Binterim in a Baroque style with an interior that is definitely Rocco.
I usually don’t have the time to view as many interiors as I would like to on my trips but this was one occasion that I was glad I poked my head through the door as the interior is something few have had the pleasure of observing apart from locals and visitor in the know.
Disclaimer: Not trying to be realistic in my editing there is enough realism in the world, my style is a mix of painterly and romanticism as well as a work in progress.

Behind the red sandstone portal, a modern, glass-fronted entrance offers a view of the magnificent Rococo decorations. The Augustinerkirche in the middle of the old town remained almost intact during the Second World War and shows an exceptional splendor unfolding in the original condition for the region. In Augustinerstraße had the since 1260 resident mendicant orders of the Augustinian Hermits until 1802 a Convention. The hall church was rebuilt from 1768 to 1772 including the monastery. Since 1805, the episcopal seminary has been located here.
Remains of the old synagogue, destroyed in 1938, lead to the new building from 2010, which, in addition to the ceremonial rooms, also houses a kindergarten and school.

Mainz, capital of the Land of Rhineland-Palatinate and an old university town, lies on the left bank of the Rhine, opposite the mouth of the River Main (hence its name). One of the oldest cities in Europe, Mainz can trace its roots back to the 1st century AD, when the Romans built a fortress here. Mainz is known the world over as Gutenberg's city, where the first movable metal type printing press was created, and it remains a hub for some of Germany's oldest publishing houses. The city also has a rich cultural history, and is home to a number of internationally-renowned festivals, including Fassnacht, a 19th-century carnival that draws crowds of up to half a million spectators.
The Chagall choir windows in St. Stephan are unique in Germany. Between 1978 and his death in 1985, Belorussian Jewish artist Marc Chagall created nine stained-glass windows of scriptural figures in luminous blue. The figures depict scenes from the Old Testament, demonstrating the commonalities across Christian and Jewish traditions. Chagall intended his work to be a contribution to Jewish-German reconciliation, made all the more poignant by the fact that Chagall himself fled France under Nazi occupation. He chose St. Stephan due to his friendship with Monsignor Klaus Mayer, who was then the presiding priest of St. Stephan. Chagall's work has been continued after his death by his pupil Charles Marq and by others.

In der Altstadt von Mainz findet man diese weitere bemerkenswerte Kirche. Obwohl erst im 18. Jahrhundert entstanden, wirkt sie doch sehr barock und pompös.
