This flyover is a main reason for the surrounding monotony. Nowadays, it's closed due to fatigue of material and will be torn down.
And now for something completely different. For the next couple of weeks, I'll be posting this series from a photo walk in Mainz in early February. It's inspired by the photography of a handful of Flickr friends who try to find the beauty in the mundane. It's not the most attractive type of photography but I hope you can find something in the mundane as they and I do. If not, I'll be back to more attractive motives afterwards.

Die Augustinerkirche der ehemals dort ansässigen Augustiner-Eremiten in der Altstadt von Mainz ist heute die Seminarkirche des Priesterseminars der römisch-katholischen Diözese Mainz.
Auf dem Bild ist die Staatskanzlei und die Theodor-Heuss-Brücke zu sehen.

Der Blick nach oben in die Vierung mit dem Stummelquerschiff
und einer flacheren Vierungskuppel. Waldemar Kolmsberger der Ältere frischte Johann Baptist Enderles Fresken so dermaßen auf, daß desssen typischer feiner Malstil nicht mehr kenntlich ist. Der gelungenen Architektur dieses Gebäudes tut dies jedoch keinen Abbruch!
