This flyover is a main reason for the surrounding monotony. Nowadays, it's closed due to fatigue of material and will be torn down.
These three houses must have been nice when they were built. But then, environment around them developed negatively and nowadays they are caught in sunless decay.
The wiring of the satellite dishes on the white house in the back certainly isn't TÃœV approved.
The prominent church in the background is the Christuskirche, a protestant church. Not what you expect given that Mainz was one of the three archdioceses being elector in the Holy Roman Empire. Further in the back is a paper factory in Mainz-Kostheim which actually belongs to Wiesbaden on the other side of the Rhein and which borders the river Main. Lots of 'not-what-you-expects' if you know a thing about Mainz.
Lots of useless structures. Whoever thought of putting a call box here, nowadays completely obsolete. The turnoff from the flyover already was obsolete when it was built. And the whole flyover is closed nowadays due to bridge damage and scheduled to be demolished.

Neben den Chagall-Fenstern zeichnet der Kreuzgang die Kirche als bedeutende Sehenswürdigkeit von Mainz aus. Rund 150 Jahre nach Vollendung des Gotteshauses ließen die Stiftsherren von St. Stephan das spätgotische Quadrat von Baumeister Valentinus errichten, fertiggestellt wurde es 1499.
In addition to the Chagall windows, the cloister distinguishes the church as an important sight in Mainz. Around 150 years after the completion of the church, the canons of St. Stephen's had the late Gothic square built by master builder Valentinus; it was completed in 1499.
Die Augustinerkirche der ehemals dort ansässigen Augustiner-Eremiten in der Altstadt von Mainz ist heute die Seminarkirche des Priesterseminars der römisch-katholischen Diözese Mainz.
Auf dem Bild ist die Staatskanzlei und die Theodor-Heuss-Brücke zu sehen.
