This is Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte and is located some 40km SE of Paris. In the summer they have these Candlelit Days on Fridays and Saturdays until October. The garden is open until late and they light up these candles in the entire garden. It's beautiful. At the end of the evening, when it is almost dark, there is a big 15 min firework show.
On the left is a restaurant and we were hungry but we didn't go there because well... it looked kind of expensive. On the other side of the garden they had some seats and they served macron's for €10 a pop and glass of champagne for €14. So eh heh, we didn't go there either. We drank some water from the toilet bowl and went to McDonalds afterwards. :)
Built between 1658 to 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV. Fouquet wanted nothing more than to impress his king. But this was before Versailles and instead of being impressed, Louis was jealous of the grandeur of Vaux le Vicomte.
Fouquet had recently been spared execution and, instead, exiled from France for what may have been trumped up charges brought by his political enemies. After viewing Fouquet's opulent château, Louis used his powers to commute a sentence to do the opposite and put Fouquet in prison for life!

The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a baroque French château located in Maincy, near Melun, 55 km southeast of Paris in the Seine-et-Marne département of France. It was built from 1658 to 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, Marquis de Belle Île, Viscount of Melun and Vaux, the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV.
The château was an influential work of architecture in mid-17th century Europe. At Vaux-le-Vicomte, the architect Louis Le Vau, the landscape architect André le Nôtre, and the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun worked together on a large-scale project for the first time. Their collaboration marked the beginning of the "Louis XIV style" combining architecture, interior design and landscape design. The garden's pronounced visual axis is an example of this style.
This photo was taken in Vaux le Vicomte in October 2013. It was a frozen saturday night and rain was bebinning to fall, it was cold but I really enjoyed the result of this capture :)
Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte. Every Saturday evening until October, it is candlelit evening! 2000 candles in the garden and around the château. The evening ends with fireworks at 23:00 hours.

"La Chambre des Muses" (chambre de Fouquet) a un plafond et une voussure de Le Brun représentant le Triomphe de la Fidélité, allusion de la fidélité de Nicolas Fouquet au roi durant la Fronde. Huit muses se répartissent dans les quatre coins de la voussure. Des figures situées entre les muses représentent les genres poétiques. Au milieu des côtés se trouvent les figures de la Noblesse et de la Paix, ainsi qu’une victoire des Muses sur les satyres. La voussure évoque le mécénat de Nicolas Fouquet. Les murs sont couverts par un "lambris d’appui" et par des tapisseries. La pièce comprend également une alcôve avec un plafond de Le Brun représentant la Nuit.

André Le Nôtre placed a full-size gilded version against the skyline at the far end of the main vista at Vaux-le-Vicomte.
The Farnese Hercules is an ancient sculpture, probably an enlarged copy made in the early third century AD by Glykon of an original of Lysippos or one of his circle, of the fourth century BC.,made for the Baths of Caracalla in Rome (dedicated in 216 AD), where it was recovered in 1546.
The heroically-scaled Hercules is one of the most famous sculptures of Antiquity, and has fixed the image of the mythic hero in the European imagination. It quickly made its way into the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, grandson of Pope Paul III. Alessandro Farnese was well placed to form one of the greatest collections of classical sculpture that has been assembled since Antiquity.
"La Chambre Carrée" aurait appartenu à l’appartement de Fouquet. En 1661, six tapisseries d'après des cartons de Charles Le Brun y étaient pendues sous un tableau montrant le siège de Fribourg commandé par le Maréchal de Villars.

"La Chambre Carrée" is said to have belonged to Fouquet's flat. In 1661, six tapestries based on cartoons by Charles Le Brun were hung there beneath a painting showing the siege of Fribourg commissioned by Marshal de Villars.
Today it houses a set of five French tapestries dating from 1633.

Once a small Chateau located between the royal residences of Vincennes and Fontainebleau, the estate of Vaux-le-Vicomte was purchased by Nicolas Fouquet in 1641. At that time he was an ambitious 26-year-old member of the Parliament of Paris. Fouquet was an avid patron of the arts, attracting many artists with his generosity.
Presently the chateau, which remains privately owned by Patrice and Cristina de Vogüé, the Count and Countess de Vogüé. It is now administered by their three sons Alexandre, Jean-Charles and Ascanio de Vogüé.
Recognized by the state as a monument historic, it is open to the public regularly.

The Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte was built by Nicolas Fouquet, who was the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV. Fouquet's intentions were to flatter the king, but the plan backfired. The king was led to believe that the misappropriation of public budgets funded his minister's magnificence. Fouquet was arrested and imprisoned for life and his wife exiled, Vaux-le-Vicomte was placed under sequestration.

Vaux-le-Vicomte (Est.1658) - a baroque French château on a 33 hectares (100 acres) estate with formal gardens along a three-kilometer axis. Built between 1658 to 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, Marquis de Belle Île, Viscount of Melun and Vaux, the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV. The name means a symbol of power and influence and was intended to reflect the grandeur of Nicolas Fouquet. The château was an influential work of architecture in mid-17th-century Europe. The architect Louis Le Vau, the landscape architect André le Nôtre, and the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun worked together on this large-scale project. This marked the beginning of the "Louis XIV style" combining architecture, interior design and landscape design. Their next following project was to build Versailles.
