Per viaggiare bisogna avere una casa da lasciare e dove tornare. Altrimenti sei un fuggiasco, un esiliato, un qivittoq*.
- Peter Hoeg, Il senso di Smilla per la neve
* […] the Qivittoq, people who leave society to live alone in the wild.
“Every once in a while, you might see one while you’re out hunting, but you’ll never be able to catch him. People say Qivittoq gain natural powers such as the ability to fly from mountain to mountain and the ability to run after reindeer,” said Lars-Peter Moerch Heilmann of Paamiut.

saw days of heaven at the film forum this evening. according to the imdb, "Cinematographer Néstor Almendros was going blind during production. Before each shot, he would have his assistant take a picture with a Polaroid camera and then would view under a high-powered magnify glass." almendros is the beethoven of DPs.
4.29.06: HOWEVER - I can't find anything else to back up this claim. Until I have time to track down Almendros' out of print biography at my local reference library, don't believe that whole blind thing.
Not feeling so good this morning and Jackie was off shopping so tried to help by walking our dog.
I saw this feather and liked the way the water magnified the feather underneath.

I planned something different for my photo today but couldnt find my remote so went with this instead. The other idea wasnt something I could keep messing up the focus of cos ... well, cos.
I cant remember where I got this texture from which sucks but if anyone recognises it, let me know!

This lens is incredibly versatile. It doesn't just create a twisting blur.
I recently got some extension tubes and was amazed at the close focusing distance I can now get with them. This leaf is not much bigger than a 50 pence piece ! I had a rather cool flash setup as well for this shot. I had two ancient flash guns set up on a tripod with optical triggers and the built in flash on my camera set to 1/64 power. Compared to my previous shots, this double flash setup helped to reduce shadows and give a more even lighting.

While at the Little Rock Zoo today I shot many exotic animals. However, there are also lots of pretty plants and flowers there. I was taking a photo of some flowers and noticed the moth so I switched to my 35mm lens and got this "magnification". Mark another challenge off the list .

The Cape Blanco lighthouse is supposedly the only lighthouse that allows you to go inside to the top in Oregon! You see this massive magnifying glass/prism that turns and turns and inside is a tiny tiny light bulb. Notice how the reflection inside is upside down!
It was the coolest experience ever.
Besides being pretty, this water drop is refracting an orange flower behind it, reflecting leaves from the garden in front of it, and magnifying the plant it is sitting on. Got to love the physics of a simple drop of water.
