A remnant from my brief fling with marble magnets, featuring an exercise routine from a 60s confessions magazine. I decoupaged an enlarged cutout of one of the poses onto the lid of the container.

Hand drawn magnet set called "Wee Mushroom Dwellings".
Each magnet is an original ink illustration and colored by hand with pencil. Drawings are on vintage paper, then fixed onto a smooth wooden round, coated in non-toxic resin and an ultra strong magnet fixed onto the back.
Each magnet measures 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) across.

One thing to be aware of when glueing magnets into bases is that two magnets with poles aligned the same way are set next to each other, they repel each other. So if I have two magnets in a base I tend to have one pole the one way and the other the other way. I also found than lifting up the magnets one paper-width before glueing ensures the base will lay absolutley flat against he ground. Without the little squares of paper (which are glued with a tiny bit of white glue) the bases have a habit of not being absolutly flush against the surface.

Just a grid that I made. If you tried to make the grid by making a sheet and then removing squares of magnets, it would probably fall apart.
I used this grid to make the flimsy cube.
These are magnets that I made for giveaways at a show. To build up my mailing list I had people fill out a slip with their contact information on it. Toward the end of the show I pulled the slips out of the fish bowl. I would give a magnet to the person's whose first initial matched the available magnet letter.

This was made entirely of 12 18-ball 2-layer hexagon sheets. Components were created using a special magnet origami technique of folding the hexagons without removing anything.

Since there's been recent discussions on magnets, I thought I'd post this one I recently saw at Harbor Freight. The packaging says it can lift up to 30lbs but that's debatable. On bare metal, it does have quite a bit of resistance but on coated metal, it's not so strong. However, that fact that it has a handle and costs $2, makes it a valuable thing to have in the studio.
Sorry for the skips/speed ups/bad quality. Flickr has a limit on data. I'm going to try to explain what happens in the video. Remember, you can pause the video at any time. Uses 175 magnets.
Basically, it starts off with a four-ball-sided decahedron. You remove the same five magnets as shown in the video. Next, add another layer to the decahedron, making it a five-ball-sided decahedron. Then remove the same five magnets. (These holes should line up with the holes you made earlier.) Next, add another layer to the decahedron. Then remove the same magnets as shown in the video. Lastly, flip the decahedron over and repeat the previous step.
