Originally a private residence known as 'Beachmount', it was converted to become the Hydro hotel in 1895. The name Hydro stemmed from being a hydropathic hotel - using brine baths. In the 1960's, the hotel changed ownership and its name was changed to The Grand Island hotel. On the 9 Feb 2009, it's doors were finally closed to the public and on the 14 Feb it's entire contents were sold off at auction. It is currently (April 2011) stood derelict with windows boarded up awaiting demolition. It was located in Ramsey, Isle of Man, but has been completely demolished now.
