It is a cheesecake...it is a brownie...it is a chocolate chip cookie.
Could it get any more decadent? I think not.

You bake it up into something delicious of course. Usually I bake this into a beautiful big braided bread stuffed with the cranberry apple relish, but today I was too busy for all that braiding so I made rolls instead. I think I'll make a ginger coconut milk glaze to finish them off.

this has been in the works since last easter, when i created this collage for storey publishing, i finally got my dirty mitts on a copy this morning, and my god it was worth the wait! pics don't do it justice, this is a beautifully produced book......blogged!
Soup for dinner. Yum.
Since I was sans microwave oven as of yesterday, I made a pot of soup.
Not that I'm totally dependent on having a microwave ... right? Right? And I happen to enjoy making soup anyhow.
This was a case of "use whatever might be on hand" and turned out to be boxed chicken broth, coarsely cut potatoes (skin ON, thank you ... carefully scrubbed), a can of chicken, a bit of frozen spinach, a splash of lemon juice, and some herbs (rosemary, dill weed, lemon thyme that I'd grown myself, and dried parsley).
It turned out quite well.
There’s not much I enjoy more than spending a day in the kitchen cooking up all kinds of goodness. Since there are only 2 of us in the house and we don’t eat lots of sweets or grain items, it doesn’t take much time to prepare the food we eat. I’m always happy when there’s a party invite or some other event that allows me to spend the day baking/cooking.
Becky made this for lunch today - Mushroom Ravioli with a tomato, mushroom, basil, green bean base - topped with some sharp cheddar cheese.
I found it in an Oprah magazine sitting in a drawer at work and Jess had been talking about banana pudding. And we'd been talking about how even Magnolia bakery makes it with Jello pudding mix. So I thought I'd try to make it from scratch for my wife and our cute friends who let us enjoy their cable television on Top Chef night.
Levi learned a lot of new egg skills... custard and meringue. And actually I'm not sure I've made meringue since I was a kid helping my mom make lemon meringue pie.
The new Country Fried Steak 'N' Gravy Biscuit from Hardee's features a seasoned, breaded steak covered with a generous ladle of sausage gravy and served between a buttery Made from Scratch® buttermilk biscuit.
Available for a limited time only!
A zesty (not just zest but a little cayenne too) lemon cupcake, topped with Pistachio Buttercream with our bakery made pistachio paste, then crumbled bakery made sesame candy. Yum!
Sliced poached chicken breast, layered over steamed broccoli, with a sherried sauce. Topped with sliced almonds... made from scratch, as usual. It is delicious!!!
After looking through the freezer I realized I had some strawberries & wild black raspberries that needed used up. Thus I decided to make some ginger berry pandowdy to go with our afternoon coffee.

Still have a lot of food to eat at home - and it's still Chinese New Year.

Growing up my mom always made tons of Christmas cookies, caramels and other goodies and sent a big plate full to each neighbor. We've done something similar since we moved in here. I'm not much of a cookie maker when it comes to the holidays, I prefer chocolates and other things like caramel corn. We also don't stop at the neighbors when spreading delicious holiday cheer. We take goodies for everyone at the Post Office, the library and our small town local bank. Of course we live in a small town, so each of these place only has 4-7 employees.
What do you do when you accidentally over bake rolls and they are too dry? You bake them up into a delicious custardy bread pudding. Also a great use for some of that extra cranberry relish left over from Thanksgiving. It was so good I may "accidentally" over bake rolls again. I used the recipe from The River Cottage Cookbook (I used half the amount of sugar)
