Homemade, decorated spritz cookies sprinkled with red and green sanding sugars

Mandy is going to spoil me rotten once we're married. This is the second pie she has made for me completely from scratch. The first was an apple pie with lattice crust. This one was a wine berry (basically the same as wild raspberries) that we hand picked ourselves. She's even wearing the faux pearls i got her. The only thing missing is her bright red apron.

 

Granted, this is not a very good photograph (the lighting wasn't the best and my flash is horrible). i guess i just wanted to brag a little that at some point in the very near future, i will be coming home to this on a regular basis. :D

Remember that New Year's Resolution? Well I'm still cooking and baking more, but I haven't always been documenting it with photos. I made these sticky buns last week and they were fantastic! Not too sweet, and made completely from scratch. :D

You can do it as long as the lady doesn't complain...

I made this angel food cake for my son's birthday yesterday. It's nice and light after a big birthday dinner.

A little evening baking taking advantage of some extras from the freezer that needed using up. Blueberry muffins with a little streusel topping. Used blueberries that got a little dehydrated in the freezer and they are PERFECT in muffins. And a little mixed citrus zest least over from Xmas. I forgot how easy and tasty muffins can be. An Italian Easter specialty, a tart dough crust is filled with a mixture of cooked arborio rice, ricotta cheese, eggs, citrus and spices then baked and topped with fresh whipped cream.

I think my high school Home Ec teacher would approve! Blueberry muffins, a quick bread (do they even call it that now?), was one of the first things we made in Home Ec class.

I love to cook, but yeast cooking has always foiled me. I recently had some success with making pizza dough, so I thought I'd try bread.

 

I got this recipe with a pizza stone we got for our wedding a couple years ago, and I've wanted to try it ever since. It's not a hard recipe, but it requires time to let the dough rise a couple times.

 

I was working from home today, on a cold, snowy day that didn't require me to leave the house, so I set about making the bread.

 

Every step seemed to go well, but the true test was cutting into and eating it. Oh, man- it's awesome! I like hearty, wheaty breads with crunchy crusts, and that's exactly how this turned out.

 

I see a lot more bread making in my future!

2010 Hardee's Biscuit Baker Challenge

我參考兩個Recipe :

1. 小小米桶的Recipe www.wretch.cc/blog/mitong/2297290

2. 另一個是朋友 thuang shyen 的Recipe,"雞胸切塊用醬油+米酒+細砂糖+五香粉約兩小匙+大量蒜頭+一點香油(黑白胡椒可加可不加 適量囉)ˋ 醃個半天(糖份量很重要 我都調得有點甜甜的去醃肉 這樣炸好吃起來才部會死鹹)炸時沾地瓜粉後要讓他靜置一下讓他表面的地瓜粉能變得濕濕的這樣下去炸時才不會掉粉"。

 

這兩個各有可取之處。

 

1.我也看過其他的Recipe,醃料其實大同小異,看手邊有什麼就加,只是最好醃久些比較入味,小米桶的30分鐘太短了些。

2. "炸時沾地瓜粉後要讓他靜置一下" 這個很重要,我第一次炸就遇到粉會掉的問題

3. 小米桶也有個技巧叫"搶酥",可以在"搶酥"的時候再加九層塔炸,而且九層塔不能炸太久,久了會太酥整片葉子都是油,要在起鍋的時候加(只要炸三秒吧)
