After the end of her torrid affair with Spoon, Dish thought that maybe, finally, she had found love again, even if the handsome stranger was rather easy to read.

Why the face in the window?... to see beyond the chickadee.

The image is a sum of 3 separate elements:

- The chickadee

- An old stone silo (found on the RBG grounds)

- The face

The bee needs the flower. The flower needs the bee. It is a sort of a double attraction. A kind of scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

This is on Waikiki beach in Honolulu. Thanks for looking.

I wanted to post something patriotic today to emphasize the fact that, while America is obviously not having her best moment, she is built on a strong foundation....and we will not allow her to be shaken by one deranged, hateful fear-mongerer and his loyal followers. I'm confident that the pendulum will eventually swing far and wide.

Facing the Freedom Tower in Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty raises her torch in a show of solidarity and resolve.

Not hard to see how both bird and flower benefit. While this Rufous Hummingbird gets a sweet energy-packed sip of nectar, it can't help but get a crown of yellow pollen. It will share this with other flowers it visits, aiding their reproduction.

Fernand Leger's "Three Women" at MoMA

I was looking at this image earlier today and noticed I had misinterpreted it. I thought it was three drops on one blade of grass. In fact. It is two blades intersecting at the top, providing mutual support for each other. So, I reworked it a bit and am re-releasing it.

I mean it also as a thanks to all the fine people here on flickr who are constantly and consistently giving me encouragement and feedback on my work. It is invaluable and greatly appreciated. I hope I am helping you all a little bit with my feedback as well. It certainly is fun!

"...we mutually pledge to each other our fortunes, our lives, and our sacred honor. "

(United States Declaration of Independence, T. Jefferson et. al., Philadelphia, 1776)

MacroMondays Theme: Patriotism

The signers of this Declaration of Independence displayed great patriotism when they laid everything on the table to support the new nation. To this day men and women from all walks of life do the same by pledging their lives, fortunes, and honor to their fellow countrymen.

Jean and I got a great tip from mutual Flickr pal Kahlee about a nice spot on the Owens river for a sunrise shot. With a sketched map in hand, we headed out before sunrise from our camp along Buttermilk road. After getting lost... just a wee bit, we found our way out to the spot with just minutes to spare before the morning sun started to do it's thing. As you can see, we were treated to one amazing Sierra sunrise :-) It was tough selecting a shot, but I chose this one for the bit of rainbow forming over the peak, just left of center frame. I will likely post at least one more from this location. Cheers!

Should she run from the human or stay and watch?

This one I took on our mini safari to see trained monkeys, water buffalos and elephants during our visit in Phuket, Thailand.

"Elephants and mahouts are like brothers, parents and children, and best friends to each other. We must work as a team.''

Fact:

Karen Mahouts take care of elephants in Thailand and in many cases these men have been with the animal for most of their lives as their fathers and ancestors did before them.

The Karen are regarded as the best handlers of elephants due to their relaxed temperament and their culture includes hundreds of years of experience training and working with elephants.

This one is one of my personal favorites.

I met this Great Basin rattlesnake at the summit of the Hidden Valley Trail in Ogden, Utah. It alerted me of it's presence from about 12 feet away with a surprisingly loud rattle that sounded like a rain-bird sprinkler! As I backed away and gave it more space it began to slowly retreat. As it did so it would occasionally stop and coil back up and rattle at me which enabled me to take some nice pictures from a safe distance, one of which I share with you here. It was a wonderful experience!
