The MS RheinGalaxie is a modern and versatile event ship operated by the Köln-Düsseldorfer (KD) line, designed to be a state-of-the-art floating venue rather than a traditional scheduled cruise vessel. Launched in April 2022, it is the newest and one of the most technologically advanced ships in the KD fleet. Its design, created by the Dutch yacht designer Rene van der Velden, features innovative and clear lines, a rectilinear bow, and an impressive lighting concept that makes it stand out on the Rhine, particularly at night. The ship's primary purpose is to host a wide range of spectacular events, including corporate meetings, conferences, parties, fairs, and gourmet cruises.
With a length of 85 meters and a width of 14 meters, the MS RheinGalaxie offers a spacious and open feel. It can accommodate up to 1,000 passengers and provides a total usable area of approximately 2,500 square meters across its three decks. The interior is characterized by a light and warm design, with floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows on two levels that create a feeling of freedom and provide guests with excellent views of the river. The main deck features two modern bars and a stage arranged to the side to ensure optimal guest proximity. The ship is also fully accessible, with an elevator connecting all decks.
A standout feature of the MS RheinGalaxie is its open-air deck, which is a major draw for events. This gigantic sun deck includes a raised stage, a sophisticated bar with a glass "Skywalk," and a "Star Rock" VIP viewing platform, all designed to provide a unique open-air experience. The ship's interior spaces are also flexible and can be customized to suit different event layouts and seating arrangements. Modern amenities like advanced lighting, sound systems, and large LED screens are integrated throughout the vessel to enhance the event experience, allowing for sophisticated light shows and presentations.
The MS RheinGalaxie is a testament to KD's commitment to the event and charter business, representing a shift in focus from traditional scheduled tours to specialized venues. It has been recognized for its environmental credentials, having received the Green Award in Gold, an internationally renowned prize for sustainable shipping. The ship's eco-friendly features include EU Stage V compliant engines, the use of environmentally friendly cleaning agents, and a focus on sustainability in its operations, from catering with regional products to waste separation. Its innovative design and focus on event hosting have established the MS RheinGalaxie as a premier event location on the Rhine, primarily serving the areas of Düsseldorf, Cologne, and Bonn.
