People of the World: Ms Ou, Norwegian. When I entered her house in the town of Stavanger, I
noticed a place with 'minimalistic' design,more accurately a lack thereof. But it was utilitarian. Ms Ou dedicated 39 years of service to a public hospital in Guangzhou, China. While the hospital is often understaffed and the salary is as competitive, she didn't really mind it at all because she sought service over self-interest. When her sons found jobs in Norway, she followed suit and retired there. She doesn't miss Guangzhou at all because there is no family there. As we chatted, she emphasised on the importance of fillial piety as these are values that are forgotten in our fast-paced society. She struck me as someone who is very family-oriented. The next morning, I woke up pleasantly surprised when I saw my laundry neatly folded up by my bedside. Then I remembered the proverb she mentioned, '在家靠父母，出家靠朋友'(depend on your family at home, but depend on your friends abroad). Here I took a picture of Ms Ou as how I see her : Simple, down-to-earth and kind-hearted.
A bold new voice in the world of hip-hop, Ms. Sofie is a 30-year-old half Black, half Mexican artist hailing from Alhambra, California. Known for her unique blend of swagger and authenticity, she is making waves in both the music and fashion scenes. Having just signed with Enfuego Music, she released her debut single, "I'm Sofia, Bitch," which has quickly gained attention for its unapologetic attitude and catchy beats.
Ms. Sofie is preparing to release her first full-length album next year, produced by the renowned Eric Smith-Gunn, promising to bring fresh sounds and raw lyrics to the genre. Her influence extends beyond music, as she also graces the screen in Sendina’s "Coffee Shop Boy" music video, alongside Avis August, set for release early next year.
With a fierce sense of style and a commanding presence, Ms. Sofie is set to leave an indelible mark on the world of hip-hop.
