Castle Stalker (Scottish Gaelic: Caisteal an Stalcaire) is a four-story tower house or keep picturesquely set on a tidal islet on Loch Laich, an inlet off Loch Linnhe. It is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north-east of Port Appin, Argyll, Scotland, and is visible from the A828 road about midway between Oban and Glen Coe. The islet is accessible (with difficulty) from the shore at low tide. The name "Stalker" comes from the Gaelic Stalcaire, meaning "hunter" or "falconer".
In recent times, the castle was brought to fame by the Monty Python team, appearing in their film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Waldorf salad, probably. The brainiest salad out there? Maybe for a melting skull that is pondering about The Meaning of Life... It certainly was a surgical challenge to extract a whole, undamaged kernel from those particularly small and hard Brandenburgian walnuts. There are many methods for opening and shelling walnuts and keep the nutmeat intact, and I tried something new after several failed (but delicious and healthy – walnuts are brain food, aren't they?) attempts: I soaked a few nuts in water overnight (to soften the shell) and then used the nutcracker from the top, not along the shelling line like I usually do – for the shelling line I used a knife. Sounds like quite the massacre, I know, but it worked :) As for the ice "cube"... Sorry, but I couldn't resist. I had to buy icecube trays online for this theme anyway, because I don't use ice in beverages (and therefore I didn't have an icecube tray at hand). And when I saw those skull-shaped trays, I knew I had to get them. I also ordered more traditional cube- and orb-shaped ones, so now I'm properly equipped when it comes to all things ice ;)
What I had in mind, of course, was a crystal-clear, perfectly-skulpted skull, and a perfectly placed walnut. At least I got one nicely placed brainy walnut (or nutty brain?) and a fairly recognisable skull out of four attempts. And boy, these ice skulls melt fast (and they move while doing so! Creepy...). I have images where you can see more of the walnut, but by the time more of that was visible, the skull was molten almost beyond recognition. So I chose the image where you can only see a little bit of the "walbrain" emerging from the skull, still covered by a thin layer of ice, and I hope that's enough "In Ice" to qualify for the theme. A rather charming small detail is the tiny (walnut) "hornlet" that appeared on the skull's forehead first – oh dear, who knows whose skull this once was... ;)

Nüsse, ganz besonders Walnüsse, sind ja sehr gesund, Nervennahrung pur, besonders gut für die kleinen grauen Zellen – und ein halber Walnusskern sieht auch noch so aus. Aber eigentlich fing alles ganz harmlos an: Ich wollte was für's Thema machen, da ich aber nie Eiswürfel verwende, hatte ich auch keine entsprechende Form im Haus. Und mangels anderer Beschaffungsmöglichkeiten blieb mir nichts anderes übrig, als mich beim großen Piranha-Fluss umzusehen, wo mir prompt diese Schädelformen angezeigt wurden. Dabei hatte ich doch bloß "Eiswürfelform" eingegeben. Ob das was mit einer Suchanfrage für ein anderes MM-Thema ("Spiky") zu tun haben könnte? Und andere Leute bekommen lustige Tierformen angezeigt, wenn sie nach "Eiswürfelform" suchen? Egal, ich konnte natürlich nicht widerstehen, habe aber Alibi-halber auch noch Würfel- und Kugelformen mitbestellt. Denn wer weiß, was mir demnächst sonst noch auf die harmloseste Suchanfrage vorgeschlagen wird...
Was mir hier natürlich vorschwebte, war ein perfekt geformter, kristallklarer Schädel mit einem darin perfekt platzierten Gehirn, aber das wollte mir als Eiswürfel-Neuling noch nicht so recht gelingen. Immerhin hatte ich am Ende ein Exemplar, bei dem nicht nur der Schädel noch als solcher zu erkennen war, sondern auch noch ein Stück der Walnusshälfte sich in Relation zur Schädelschmelze rechtzeitig aus selbigem herauszuschälen begann (und das charmante kleine "Hörnchen" auf der Stirn hatte sich als Erstes hervorgewagt) – was übrigens einfacher war, als eine unversehrte Walnusshälfte aus zwar sehr schmackhaften, aber auch besonders kleinen und festen Brandenburger Walnüssen herauszuknacken. Eine fürwahr harte Nuss.

Not really a castle, Stalker is a Keep or Tower House built, in its present form, around the 1440's by the Clan Stewart who held the Lordship of Lorn.
Th eoriginal castle on this site was built around the 1320s.
Of course, Castle Stalker is famous to Monty Python fans as The Castle of Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh from Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

Usually found on the cover of shortbread tins or picture postcards, it's one of Scotland's most remote yet beautiful strongholds.
The haunting Castle Stalker stands as a lone sentinel on its own tiny tidal islet on the beautiful Loch Laich, on the west coast just south of Glencoe.
This famous castle has appeared in films such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail and played a key role in Scottish clan disputes.
Reportedly taking its name from the Gaelic word 'Stalcaire', which loosely translates as 'hunter' or 'falconer', the site was once used as a base by Scottish royalty for stalking and hunting trips in the surrounding country side.
A recognisable sight for anyone who has travelled the road between Oban and Glencoe, the four-story tower dates back to the 14th century, when it was originally thought to have been a small fortified building in the hands of Clan MacDougall, who held Lorn and the surrounding area at the time.
Though it did pass briefy back into Stewart hands there after, it was eventually forfeited to the Campbells once more after the Stewarts supported King James VII & II against King William of Orange and lost their lands following his defeat.
During the Jacobite uprising of 1745, the castle, then in Government hands found itself besieged by a strong force of Stewarts, who were unable to take it.
The subsequent defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie at Culloden, the castle was used by Government troops as both a prison and a place for the defeated clan warriors to hand in their weapons.
The Lordship of Lorn and the castle and its surrounding lands then passed for a short time into the hands of the Stewarts, who are thought to have created the building in the form it is seen today.
It was during their reign that King James IV of Scotland, who was related to them by blood, was born in 1473 came to visit the castle and is said to have stayed their many times on his hunting trips in Argyll.
Incredibly, the castle once again changed hands to the Campbells after the 7th Stewart Chief, Duncan, lost a drunken wager.
Though it did pass briefy back into Stewart hands there after, it was eventually forfeited to the Campbells once more after the Stewarts supported King James VII & II against King William of Orange and lost their lands following his defeat.
During the Jacobite uprising of 1745, the castle, then in Government hands found itself besieged by a strong force of Stewarts, who were unable to take it.

Endlich Wochenende, nehmt also Platz in diesem unglaublich gemütlichen Sessel, der sogar ein wenig so aussieht, als sei er zu einer noch viel bequemeren Chaiselongue ausziehbar. Perfekt also für zwei super entspannte (das Wort "faul" möchte ich in diesem Zusammenhang nicht in den Mund nehmen) Tage. Wie wäre es z.B. mit einem Film- oder Serienmarathon? Ich hole schon mal das Knabberzeug (und das Wort "Corona-Plauze" möchte ich an dieser Stelle auch nicht hören) und Ihr sucht das Programm aus :)
In diesem Sinne: Habt ein schönes WE, passt gut auf Euch auf – und lasst es Euch gut gehen.

The Flying Circus pub was formerly the Exchange Hotel and also the Crown & Mitre. Located in Castle Gate Newark.
It reopened under its present name in 2014 with the pub walls decorated with Monty Python quotes, hence its name. Brewery logos are on the walls and old model aircraft are suspended from the ceiling. A wide range of craft or ‘real’ beers and real cider are on offer. Craft beers are those made by smaller, independent breweries called micro-breweries.

Of course, 'crop' can also mean 'short haircut', which is rather convenient! So, if you happen to be one of those unfortunate people (no names, Sarah) who suffers from chronic, 'bad-hair-day' syndrome, you can take comfort from the fact that going for a tighter crop can often work wonders for your hairdo! Funny how this word keeps cropping up! ;-)

Goosestepping Through Toronto..
While shooting downtown a year ago i shot this photo of a man enthusiastically goosestepping across the street. It was one of those moments that last only a second and are gone.
it brought a smile to my face and i reminisced about the Monty Python "ministry of silly walks" skit starring John Cleese.

Castle Stalker is built on a small island on Loch Laich, an inlet off Loch Linnhe and near the village of Port Appin, Argyll, Scotland.
The original castle was a small fort, built around 1320 by Clan McDougall. Around 1388 the Stewarts took over the Lordship of Lorn, and it is believed that they built the castle in its present form around the 1440s.
Castle Stalker is now in private ownership and is open to the public at selected times during the summer.
Castle Stalker was used in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) appearing in the final scene as "The Castle of Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh”.
Now for something completely different, where have we heard this phrase from, Monty Python of course.
Not only a day time shot, but an LE landscape image in portrait orientation. Mr Speaker this matter needs to be raised in the house as a matter of urgency, what next.
Been meaning to photograph this appropriately named Rocky Valley for some time, but you know what it is like checking and keeping on top of ordering the weekly beer and wine supplies, imagine running out, unthinkable.
I thought it would be good practice to carry out a day time recce of this location initially as the rocks are a bit tricky here. So me thinks a return visit of an evening with maybe a bit of a sunset, or a moody sky with the sea roaring in over these rocks could be worth having a go at, plus the excitement of the 20 feet drop from this ledge, what could possibly go wrong.

After 20 years of dreaming we were finally there. I can´t say how impressive the moment was, when we put our feets on scotish grounds. I´m surely never forget this.
Again I want to thank my wife for this, my best christmas gift ever. I love you my dear!
Here we´re staying in front of the famous Doune Castle (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Outlander, Jabberwocky, Game of Thrones) near Stirling.
Soon we will be in this beautiful country again. We´re visiting Edinburgh (Edinbrrrraaah!) for a few days.

Behold the cave of Caerbannog, okay so maybe not so much a cave, but a clearing with some pot holes, but that rabbit is the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on! I soiled myself I was so scared!
Not sure how many will remember the movie, but suffice to say it influenced my sense of humour enough that every time I see a rabbit, I am reminded of it. Now where is the holy hand grenade?…
