Diesel locomotive Demag ML 55 (1940) at Technikmuseum Speyer in Speyer, Germany.
Demag was one of the largest German manufacturers of industrial equipment, being known mainly for its cranes and various types of heavy equipment used in steel production and mining. However, from 1936 to 1957, the company also produced a small series of standard gauge diesel locomotives, few of which survive.
This ML 55 was delivered to sugar manufacturer Südzucker in 1940 and was operated at Züttlingen sugar factory until the plants closure in 1971. While being sold for scrap, the small locomotive was eventually saved and displayed at the Sinsheim museum from where it was moved to Speyer in 1996.
