Cwymystwyth Mines Cambrian mountains Wales were mined for Lead slate and other metals leaving a scared landscape on one side of the valley.
While exploring Washington State back roads, I came across this abandoned silver mine known as the Old Ruby (Pyrargyrite) Mine. Along with the mill there are several other buildings on the property, maintenance shop, blacksmith shop and forge, office, bunkhouse and powder magazine. The mill is empty now, and so is the powder magazine.

This guy had just taken a pigeon down in my back yard...There were feathers all over my decking...I went out with my camera thinking he would just fly off and I wouldn't get a shot...I was wrong...Very wrong...He just glared at me as if to say " Back off buster...This is Mine " He carried on eating his well earned dinner and then flew off with the remains of the carcass....

I had a spare 1/2 an hour to kill before tea was ready and exported a couple of square foot of garden with a few old M42 lenses and a stack of extension tubes.
This is shot with a Helios 44, lots of colour work and sharpening for sliders.

-The Number 9 Coal Mine was opened in 1855 by the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company. It was the World’s Longest-Operating Coal Mine. The mine featured miles of tunnels and went as far as 800 feet below the surface. It produced a significant amount of anthracite coal from the Panther Valley’s Mammoth Vein in Carbon County, PA.
In 1972, the mine was officially closed. 1992, 20 years after closing for business, the Number 9 Coal Mine was opened for tours to those wanting to learn more about this industry that built Northeastern Pennsylvania. - (Source: Uncovering PA)

The Wieliczka Salt Mine located in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland, lies within the Kraków metropolitan area. Opened in the 13th century, the mine produced table salt continuously until 2007, as one of the world's oldest salt mines in operation.
Throughout, the royal mine was run by the Żupy krakowskie Salt Mines company.
The Wieliczka salt mine reaches a depth of 327 meters and is over 287 kilometres (178 mi) long.
The rock salt is naturally grey in various shades, resembling unpolished granite rather than the white or crystalline look that many visitors may expect.
In the 13th century, rock salt was discovered in Wieliczka and the first shafts were dug.
The Wieliczka mine is often referred to as "the Underground Salt Cathedral of Poland". In 1978 it was placed on the original UNESCO list of the World Heritage Sites. Even the crystals of the chandeliers are made from rock salt that has been dissolved and reconstituted to achieve a clear, glass-like appearance.
