I usually don't like street mimes. But this mime in Montmarte caught my attention and interest. I went to drop some change into his cup on the street. He saw that I still had a few coins in my hand, so he smiled and grabbed my hand. I said Oh you see more change. He looked at me, and mimes are not supposed to talk. He winked and said "drop it" I had to laugh and dropped the rest of the change in his cup and went on my way.

He trained for years to mimic the pole, the way it stood steadfast in the wind, the cold and the oppressive heat. It was a difficult to mime the fortitude the pole had shown all these years.

One day, he decided that maybe it was time for the pole to mime him? He awoke that morning, got dressed and defiantly placed a toothpick in his mouth. Now it was the pole's move.

Surva festival is a Bulgarian tradition in which men and women dress like scary creatures to srace the evil spirits. It is like a Bulgarian Halloween.

The festival is called Surva and is celebrated each year in the end of January in Pernik, Bulgaria.
