It Might As Well Be Spring ♫ - Sarah Vaughan ft Miles Davis

[O were my love yon Lilac fair]

Robert Burns - 1759-1796

O were my love yon Lilac fair,

Wi' purple blossoms to the Spring,

And I, a bird to shelter there,

When wearied on my little wing!

How I wad mourn when it was torn

By Autumn wild, and Winter rude!

But I wad sing on wanton wing,

When youthfu' May its bloom renew'd.

O gin my love were yon red rose,

That grows upon the castle wa';

And I myself a drap o' dew,

Into her bonie breast to fa'!

O there, beyond expression blest,

I'd feast on beauty a' the night;

Seal'd on her silk-saft faulds to rest,

Till fley'd awa by Phoebus' light!

Picture taken in Picos de Europa (Spain). For those who would not know it, you will find here a link to Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" masterpiece: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbxtYqA6ypM.

Painted from a photograph of Miles Davis (Irving Penn?) on the door of intimate music venue in Toronto's eclectic neighbourhood. The club fits in 40 people uncomfortably, it gets really hot in there, but it is hard to beat for jazz vibe. The painting (CBS Memorandum) replaced another mural depicting Miles Davis hand. It is done in same realistic style by Carlos Delgado. Poetry Jazz Cafe is opened in 2022 few times a months and has a new mural since 2021 (Nina Simone-I uploaded a photo of it last year), replacing Miles Davis.

“Tossed between

The sky and sea

We'll sail

Until we find the harbour lights

A life is but a dream

Of blue in green although it seems

The end draws nearer with each passing day

We'll always sail

This way, until

We find our home” ~Cassandra Wilson~

My thoughts about soft focus and out of focus...

There’s soft focus and out of focus… The differences between the two are apparent… Soft focus can live within any shot… especially if you’re shooting moving objects… i.e. animals, people, cars etc. The key question is: does the soft focus enhance or detract?

Since shots are all subjective to the shooter… it should be a process of “Should I show this shot?”… soft focus images should have levels of clarity within the shot, if not, then it’s just out of focus… yes the wings and most of the gull shows movement… but the head, beak and eye are for the most part clearly defined… as well as the underlying canvass which is the water…

It’s always a struggle to post these shots… but if you know my work… all shots are just not about sharpness… shots that you post should be about “YOU” your vision, your heart…

just my perspective... :))

I don't use this as often as I'd like, but when I do, I really enjoy it.

A relatively recent replacement for a turntable I had since high school. It didn't break the bank but easily could have; little did I know a new turntable can require a second mortgage. And that's just for the turntable! Then there's the cartridge, the preamp, and while you're at it . . .

Musical note: I much prefer Blue Train to Kind of Blue, but the latter made for a better title. Either way, jazz is sexier in vinyl.

Technical note: This was the first time I used live view to manually focus. It's the bomb!

I've been a jazz fan as long as I can remember. I’m still learning - all the time and I love it.

There are several awards given each year during the Montreal Jazz Festival. Some are new, some have long history. Oscar-Peterson Award is the oldest and probably most prestigious. The Miles Davis Award is the second oldest. It was created for the Festival’s 15th anniversary in 1994 to honour a great international jazz musician for the entire body of their work and influence in defining and expanding the jazz vocabulary. Multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller (who actually played with Miles) was the 29th recipient of the Miles-Davis Award for 2024. Previous recipients of this award are Avishai Cohen (2023), Joshua Redman (2019), Béla Fleck and the Flecktones (2018), Kenny Barron (2016), Al Di Meola (2015), Terence Blanchard (2014), Charles Lloyd (2013), Ron Carter (2012), Stanley Clarke (2011), Sonny Rollins (2010), Ornette Coleman (2009), McCoy Tyner (2008), Brad Mehldau (2006), Dave Holland (2005), Keith Jarrett (2004), Joe Zawinul (2003), Chick Corea (2002), John Scofield (1998), Herbie Hancock (1997), Wayne Shorter (1996), and John McLaughlin (1994).

Born into an upper-middle-class family in Alton, Illinois, and raised in East St. Louis, Davis started on the trumpet in his early teens. He is among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music. Alton, Illinois.

Another grey winters day. Miles Davis' Kind of Blue brings me in the right mood. Relax and listen to the warm sound of his music.

Seeing this lily immediately reminded me of Miles Davis' album Sketches of Spain...such sweet sounds

A Native Son. Miles Davis was a legendary jazz trumpeter, composer and bandleader who revolutionized the genre with his innovative styles and collaborations.

I've always found it amazing that the combination of a little wood and a little steel could produce sounds as incredible as those that emanate from the stringed instruments. Of course Miles would want me to include a little brass in the mix as well.

My grandfather made the violin that's hanging on the wall. It's one of my most cherished possessions. He was a skilled craftsman, with hands that knew how to coax little miracles out of wood--and of course--a little steel.
