Union Pacific SD40-2 No. 3698 leads a Yermo - Salt Lake City merchandise train on the Lynndyl Sub through Rush Valley between St. John and Stockton, Utah the morning of Aug. 4, 1990.
Shops in a street underpass. I wonder how they survive even though people are forced to use the underpass as deliberately there are no traffic lights on the street above.

Fun fact - when opened in 1930, this was the largest building in the word in terms of floor space.
I found these shoes in the window of a very expensive shop selling 'pre-owned' clothing, shoes, and bags. Everything on display was name brand fashionista merchandise, including these shoes which had a prominent position in the window. Nothing that I could see had a price tag on it so I'm assuming the old adage applied, namely "If you need to ask the price you probably can't afford it!". (I definitely fall into that camp.) When I got this home and opened it on my computer I suddenly realised that that 6-inch spike that the shoes appeared to be propped up on was actually the heel of that shoe. Goodness me, now that really is suffering for your fashion sense! I personally cannot imagine how anyone could actually walk in these. Perhaps they look very good in the shoe cupboard and that may be good enough for someone with more money than sense!

I stumbled upon an illustration I created well over seven years ago. This concept was one of many presented to a local radio station.

My first railroad photograph of the new year captures Union Pacific's Roper to Ogden merchandise train, all 167 cars of it, passing through North Yard in Salt Lake City, Utah the afternoon of Jan. 1, 2022. Yes, I have taken a million photos at "CP Belmont" in the past decade. Let's make that 1,000,001.
"Delicate merchandise!
The harbors are big with it-
bazaars
for the light and the
barbarous gold.
We open
the halves
of a miracle,
and a clotting of acids
brims
into the starry
divisions:
creation's
original juices..."

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.
“A concise poem about our work as stated elow
A place without being
a thought without thinking
creatively, two dimensions
suspended animation
possibly a perfect imitation
of what was then to see.
A frozen memory in synthetic colour
or black and white instead,
fantasy dreams in magazines
become imbedded inside my head.
Artistic views
surrealistic hues,
a photographer’s instinctive eye:
for he does as he pleases
up to that point he releases,
then develops a visual high.

I guess the fact that they have a rack for broomstick parking may give Harry Potter fans some idea about what this place, the Store of Requirement at Samford in the valley west of Brisbane's suburbs is all about. It bills itself as the no. 1 place for Harry Potter merchandise. I am not a fan so I wouldn't know. Anyway, it's not far by broomstick in a delightful area of the south east, so fly on up and check it out.
