Silver chair and black bedside table by Minimagine

This diorama was inspired by pictures of old, abandoned mental hospitals that I've been fascinated with lately.

Mental health problems are still severely stigmatized- and the way we address these problems still has a long way to go, but many aspects have improved since the days of locking people up rather than treating them, lobotomies and other quack medicines and 'remedies'.

I started this poem a few years ago, and this photo helped me finally finish it.

Mental Health Debate at Winfield House

War is a toxin for the human psyche. It bombards the senses with relentless overstimulation fueled by the constant fear of death. In such an environment, one is forced into profound cognitive dissonance—committing acts of violence while believing that taking a life is inherently wrong, and yet clinging to the notion of personal decency that any observer would find hard to believe. Eventually, the body begins to manifest the inevitable toll of this relentless strain.

Mental Health Debate at Winfield House

Someone once said to me not long ago that the writing underneath my images sort of devalues it! Does it?

I don't know, I'll leave it for you to decide.

Picture taken by Paul Mackie and edited by myself. This was also taken from the same shoot as this and this, last one of this batch.

'Mind your health'

Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in May by reaching millions of people in the United States through the media, local events, and screenings.(copy and paste bit done)

This is now a Global campaign and awareness is indeed needed.

My thoughts after the last year or so we have had that helped no one through anxiety or other mental health issues was to give a moment to try and create an image that was my representation of the awareness campaign in lightpainting.

The translation of the shot will be different for everyone but the message is the same!

"I'd like to be a jelly fish

Cause jelly fish dont pay rent

They dont walk, they dont talk

With some euro-trash accents

They're just simple protoplasm

Clear as cellophane

They ride the winds of fortune

Life without a brain

In one ear and out the other

Dont you get criss-crossed

I recommend you try a little...

So there’s George, fresh out of his “you’re not crazy, but let’s talk about it anyway” session with the psychiatrist at the Veterans Clinic. He steps outside, half expecting the world to look as gray as the doctor’s tie. But nope, there they are: flowers still blooming like rebels in 37° weather. George laughs and says, “Hell, these flowers got more life in ‘em than I do after therapy.” Guess nature runs the best mental health program, no copay required.

Tokyo Opera City open space. This building is home to my favorite gallery, the ICCenter (Intercommunication) which I thought was closed down over 10 years ago. It's an interactive modern art/media exhibition space that has a permanent exhibition as well as touring special exhibitions. It's never busy but filled with amazing pieces, many of which are truly interactive. Make sure you see it if you are in town.
