Pure natural light is the source of inspiration as it also responsible for synchronizing body rhythms. Just think of caricature in which a light bulb suddenly turns on whenever the fair hero got an idea or better to say, inspired. Even in more recent times of cyber world where a light bulb is identified as an emoticon associated with inspiration. However the relationship of light and inspiration isn’t new and it actually goes three thousand years back in time when the Pharaoh Akhenaton the ruler of eighteenth dynasty in ancient Egypt taught his followers to view the sun as the visible source of creation, of life and of growth. For him the sun was a god, the only one god, Aton-Ra. According to the ancient Egyptian glyphs Aton was present as disk of the sun surrounded by rays, and each ray ended in an extending hand. In his poem "Great Hymn to the Aton", Akhenaton praises Aton as the creator, and giver of life. The poem has a striking similarity to Psalm 104 in the Hebrew bible as well to the

Book of Habakkuk (Chapter 3, 4),

His radiance is like the sunlight;

He has rays flashing from His hand,

And there is the hiding of His power

Observant Jews recite Psalm 104 in its entirety every day during morning services, as well on certain occasions, such as the New Moon, while in the Eastern Orthodox Church the Psalm (or 103 in Greek) is recited in the main liturgical at the beginning of vespers and the all-night-vigils.

Senjokaku (千畳閣) - Miyajima, Japan

Senjokaku (千畳閣, Senjōkaku, lit. "pavilion of 1000 mats") is the common name of Hokoku Shrine. The name describes the spaciousness of the building, as Senjokaku is in fact approximately the size of one thousand tatami mats. The hall, which dates back to 1587, is located on a small hill just beside Itsukushima Shrine.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of the three unifiers of Japan, commissioned Senjokaku for the purpose of chanting Buddhist sutras for fallen soldiers. The building was not yet completed when Hideyoshi died in 1598. As Tokugawa Ieyasu took power thereafter rather than the Toyotomi heirs, the building was never fully completed.

Senjokaku is strikingly sparse, lacking proper ceilings and a front entrance. In 1872, the incomplete building was dedicated to the soul of its founder, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, which remains its present day religious function.

Tonight I joined a Mikkyo zen mediation class at the Lower House at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, California. That house has a beautiful stone garden, perfect for meditation.

I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the curves and color balance to pop the scene.

The Statue of Adam by German figure sculptor Georg Kolbe was erected in 1997 near the new portal of Frankfurt‘s Main Cemetery. It is a permanent loan of Museum Städel in Frankfurt.

The background was a bit boring so I did some photoshopping.

This small waterfall is a focal feature in the Garden of the Phoenix, a Japanese garden on Wooded Island in Jackson Park on the south side of Chicago. This lovely site features several places to sit quietly and reflect or meditate near the waterfall which flows into a picturesque koi pond.

This shot was inspired by vicariously visiting places like Nepal and India through the delightful books of Savanna Grace and the beautiful photos on her blog "Sihpromatum".

Meditation on Ruins

He disembarked in a living room without chairs or gilt mouldings:

just rotting beams, vases with plastic flowers, windows

whose broken panes looked out onto the highway. No wind,

no sea: only the sound of cars entering through the cracks

to echo on the ceiling (rafters showing through the stucco

remains). Outside he hung on to the rusted rails

of decrepit balconies. He discerned, through the underbrush

that was overrunning everything, a landscape worthy

of a Romantic painting. The houses covering the valley and

the hills taken over by scrap iron hide a past

with flocks and shepherds. But perhaps the flute’s song

was never heard here. Indeed, this house conserves nothing

but ancient silences, which the using has transformed into sepia

spots in memory. Now they’re blended into the colour of the walls

and harbour only dens of scarcely discernible reptiles,

in winter, hidden from the universe. But someone was here

very recently. And a pile of wood still smokes as

the sun ascends from the horizon, where dawn’s cold colours

do not dissipate, and no bird greets

the new day.

sépia na memória. Agora, confundem-se com a cor das paredes;

e só abrigam tocas répteis, que apenas se adivinham,

no inverno, escondidos do universo. Mas alguém passou por aqui,

há pouco; e um monte de madeira fumega, ainda, enquanto

o sol avança a partir do nascente, onde as cores frias

da madrugada não se dissipam, nem pássaro algum saúda

o nascer do dia.
