This building was originally built in 1849 for Silas C. Herring of Herring Lock & Safe Company. According to the Bowery Boys, it originally was four stories high, but another story was added after Herring passed away and was converted to a general storefront in 1883.
The building is often referred to as “the Little Flatiron Building,” and is part of the Gansevoort Market Historic District. In the 1980's and 90's, it housed a variety of erotic clubs.
It has been seen in Fatal Attraction and The Hours.
