Challoner's 1st XI welcomed the MCC for the annual match on a glorious June day. As is customary, the MCC batted first and found the going tough against some disciplined pace bowling from Ashley Turney (1-37) and Dan Heaney (1-29). The MCC were grateful for a classy innings of 60 not out from Luke Samarasinghe who played the spin of Robin Collins (1-23) and Asad Rehman (1-48) expertly. A fair declaration on 189 for 4 from 54 overs left the game in the balance.

The Challoner's innings got off to a shocking start with 4 early wickets falling to the high-class opening bowlers of Alex Lines and Stuart Rogers. At 14 for 4 all seemed lost but in strode Heaney (83) who with captain Henry Bugg (27) set about rebuilding the innings with a mixture of watchful defence and brutal aggression on anything over-pitched. The pair took the total to 111 with plenty of time still to go, however the reintroduction of Rogers saw wickets tumble and the school fell 32 runs short at 157 all out.
