LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Michael Matz seems a little older this year. That description does not denigrate Matz. At 56, he still appears at least a decade younger than his birth certificate claims. His hips and shoulders are impossibly slim, as if time has spared his equestrian's body; his eyes are still a piercing blue. Maybe it's just the subject matter that has aged him.
"Last year was a hard year, no doubt about that,'' says Matz, as he stands in a cool morning sunlight outside his barn at Keeneland Race Course. Last year, in 15 words: Barbaro. Kentucky Derby romp. Preakness breakdown. Life-saving surgery. Worldwide outpouring of support and, ultimately, grief. If you are a reader who needs more explanation, you wouldn't have started viewing this story in the first place.
Between late April and early June, no fewer than three documentaries will premiere (NBC, HBO and an independent production, "The First Saturday in May,'' which premieres this week at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York) that feature the Barbaro saga as either all or part of their content. In each of these, Matz will earnestly -- and honestly -- pour out his heart, effortlessly playing his role: Grieving Trainer.
It has been exhausting, but Matz has the benefit of sincerity. He loved Barbaro and suffered with him. "There was something about him that will never be forgotten,'' says Matz. "His heart, his fight ... whatever it was. The fact that he never gave up. But people saw something in him.''
Here Matz smiles with lips pursed. That's the way he always smiles, as if holding a little something back. "Of course the racing industry is not going to stop and wait for me to get over him,'' Matz says. "The business is going to go on. Life is going to go on.''
In that vein, Matz has a shot at returning to Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May. He trains a three-year-old named Chelokee, who finished a hard-luck third in the March 31 Florida Derby (Chelokee was checked in traffic at the quarter-pole and re-started). There is little doubt that Chelokee is among the best three-year-olds in training, but the Kentucky Derby is limited to 20 starters; and if more than 20 enter, the field is determined by earnings in graded stakes races. Chelokee, who earned $100,000 for finishing third in the Florida Derby (his only start in a graded stakes race), is very much on the bubble.
"It's a very funny situation,'' says Matz. "I do think this horse has a very good chance to win if he gets in. I really do. But he has to get in.''
Chelokee talk is a respite for Matz, a chance to be just a trainer again. Barbaro's story has thrust Matz into a position that is unlike almost any thoroughbred trainer in history. Yet the experience is not so new for him. Before he was Barbaro's Famous Trainer, he was an Olympic Medalist and before that he was a Plane Crash Hero, having helped three young children escape from a burning wreckage in 1989 in an Iowa cornfield. Most people are defined once in their life. Matz is at three and counting. "What happened last year is something that happened,'' says Matz. "It's like the plane crash. It's with you for the rest of your life. What you do with it is up to you. What I'm trying to do with Barbaro is think of the good that came with it, the way he inspired people, the way people cared about him.'' (Fate managed to find Matz at every turn in 2006 and include him in the script; Matz-trained Round Pond won the Breeders Cup Distaff at Churchill Downs, but only after two other horses broke down).
On another level, Matz's attachment to Barbaro's memory is more fundamental. He is a trainer. Barbaro was a great horse. That memory is endlessly long, as well. "What can I do?'' asked Matz. "I can't just give up and say I'll never have another good horse again. I will probably never have another one like him, but then again, not many people do.''

Die Bauweise des Schlosses Pansin ist vom italienischen Baustil beeinflusst und hat einige ältere Teile. Es besteht aus zwei Hauptgebäuden, die durch Mauern verbunden sind und einen Schlosshof bilden. Das eine dieser Gebäude wurde zwar mehrfach erneuert, lässt aber die einfachen Formen des spätgotischen Baustils im Charakter des 16. Jahrhunderts erkennen. Das andere, im italienischen Baustil erbaute Gebäude ist ebenfalls dem 16. Jahrhundert zuzuordnen. Es ist an seinen Außenseiten mit Giebeln versehen und weist hohe Schornsteine auf, die kronenartige Verzierungen tragen. An dieses Gebäude fügt sich ein mächtiger alter Rundturm an, dessen Oberteil jedoch nicht mehr vorhanden ist.
Vermutlich hatte der Johanniterorden, der schon im 13. Jahrhundert oder noch früher im Lande Stargard ansässig war, im 14. Jahrhundert das Dorf von einem adligen Vorbesitzer käuflich erworben.[1] Noch im Jahr 1486 war Pansin unmittelbares Eigentum des Ordens und sogar Sitz eines Komturs. Nach dieser Zeit hat der Orden das Dorf als Afterlehen weitergegeben, und zwar hauptsächlich an die Familie Borcke, aber auch an Mitglieder der Familien Schulenburg und Güntersberg, deren Lehenrechte aber bald wieder der Familie Borcke zugefallen sein müssen. Der Hufenmatrikel von 1628 zufolge hatte Matz Borck in Plansin zu versteuern: 51 Hufen, sieben Kossäten, zwei Mühlen, zwei Gasthöfe, eine Schmiede und eine Schäferei. Der Sohn von Matz Borck, Philipp Adrian Borck, hinterließ eine einzige Tochter, Eva Deliana Borck, die sich im Jahr 1682 mit Peter Georg von Puttkamer vermählte. Diesem wurde das Gut Pansin von den Gläubigern überlassen. Nach seinem Tod erbten es seine sechs Söhne, von denen sich die noch Lebendem am 25. Februar 1752 so einigten, dass es der Kriegs- und Domänenrat Adrian Ernst von Puttkamer (1699–1772) es für 30.000 Taler übernahm. Als er 1772 verstarb, kam das Gut an seinen einzigen Sohn, den Lieutenant Georg Franz Ludwig von Puttkamer. Dieser bot es der Familie Borcke zur Einlösung an. In einem Vergleich vom 30. Januar 1775, der am 28. Juni 1776 von der Pommerschen Regierung und im selben Jahr von dem Johanniterorden in Sonnenburg bestätigt wurde, verzichtete die Familie Borcke jedoch auf ihre Rechte und überließ ihm das Gut samt dem Zubehör in Henkenhagen. Das Gut befand sich seither im Besitz von Mitgliedern der Familie Puttkamer.

Provenance : Italie, environs de Rome. Ce fragment a pu décorer la façade d'un sarcophage romain. Les sarcophages à sujets dionysiaques sont répertoriés par F. Matz (op. cit.) : deux sarcophages conservés à la Glypthotek de Munich (inv. 223 et 365), datés de la fin du règne d'Hadrien (117-138), présentent presque la même composition pour le couple divin mais inversée. Dans les deux cas, Bacchus tourne néanmoins la tête vers Ariane et le Silène est absent. Ces exemplaires, découverts respectivement à Ostie et à Rome sont toutefois traités beaucoup plus sobrement. Ces éléments de comparaison permettent partiellement d'attester la composition du relief de Chantilly mais pas sa facture : la complication du décor du char, l'affectation des personnages, la liberté du traitement du manteau d'Ariane et la façon dont elle tourne la tête vers le spectateur sont sans réels équivalents sur les cuves de sarcophages romains. Malgré les concrétions qui couvrent la surface du marbre, il est possible de douter de l'antiquité de l'œuvre

Description
Bacchus et Ariane, accompagnés d'un Silène y sont représentés en haut relief. Le couple est alangui sur la caisse d'un char, finement ciselé d'écailles et de rosaces. Bacchus, imberbe et couronné de lierre, porte une peau de bête accrochée à l'épaule droite. Le bras droit levé, le dieu tourne la tête vers le Silène qui le soutient et semble lui adresser la parole. Son comparse est vêtu d'une tunique courte. Il a le visage camus, ses membres couverts d'un pelage rendu en longues mèches. Le contraste semble souligné à dessein entre les traits de Bacchus et ceux de cet être hybride qui participe à son thiase. Ariane est assise en amazone sur la jambe droite de son amant. Un manteau couvre ses jambes et dévoile toute la courbe de son dos, jusqu'au bas des fesses. La jeune femme, tête tournée vers le spectateur, pose la main gauche sur la nuque de Bacchus. De la main droite, elle s'appuie sur une hampe fragmentaire, peut-être celle d'un thyrse. Son attitude constitue un contre point élégant à celle de son voisin

Am 28. Mätz 2014 fand im Presseclub Concordia eine Pressekonferenz von SLIÖ (Selbstbestimmt Leben Initiative Österreich), ÖAR (Österreichische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Rehabilitation) und ÖZIV (Österreichischer Zivilinvalidenverband) statt. Die durch Bundesminister Dr. Josef Ostermayer erfolgte Bestellung des ORF-Publikumsrates, der keine hochqualifizierte Selbstvertreter_innen für den Bereich behinderte Menschen angehören, ist skandalös.
Die Entscheidung gegen behinderte Expert_innen hatte keine fachlich-sachlichen Gründe, sondern war nach Ansicht der Podiumsteilnehmer anscheinend nur parteipolitisch motiviert.
Mag.a Bernadette Feuerstein, Obfrau von SLIÖ, zeigt sich verärgert: „Das Motto der Selbstbestimmt Leben Bewegung "Nichts über uns ohne uns" ist mit dieser Bestellung zum Publikumsbeirat wieder einmal zu Gunsten parteipolitischer Interessen ignoriert worden." Empört zeigt sie sich gegenüber der Bestellung von Mag. Erich Fenninger, Geschäftsführer der Österreichischen Volkshilfe. „Es sei eine Dreistigkeiteit, wenn sich Minister Ostermayer statt von den fünf von repräsentativen Behindertenorganisationen (ÖAR und Selbstbestimmt Leben Österreich) nominierten behinderten Expertinnen für den Volkshilfe Parteifreund entscheidet.“
Mag. Manfred Fischer, der nominierter Experte der ÖAR und SLIÖ, sieht die Bestellung Fenningers ebenfalls kritisch: „Behinderte Menschen haben das Recht durch selbst betroffene, behinderte Menschen vertreten zu werden. [...] Bei der Bestellung des jetzigen ORF-Publikumsrates durch Bundesminister Dr. Josef Ostermayer wurde das Selbstvertretungsrecht von 1,3 Millionen Österreichern negiert, denn 15 Prozent der Bevölkerung weisen eine Behinderung auf."
Dr. Hansjörg Hofer (Behindertenanwalt): „Die Behindertenanwaltschaft wird in direkten Gesprächen versuchen, die zuständigen Verantwortlichen davon zu überzeugen, dass die derzeitige Besetzung des ORF-Publikumsrats ohne die Entsendung eines/einer Vertreters/Vertreterin mit einer Behinderung kein positives Signal darstellt."
Dr. Klaus Voget, Präsident des ÖZIV und der ÖAR, meint: „Die Behindertenorganisationen werden diese Entscheidung nicht hinnehmen und alle rechtlichen und politischen Möglichkeiten ausschöpfen, damit endlich wieder SelbstvertreterInnen im Publikumsrat die Interessen behinderter Menschen einbringen können. Als weiteren Schritt erwägen die BehindertenvertreterInnen eine Beschwerde bei der zuständigen Regulierungsbehörde. Und auch ein Schlichtungsverfahren nach dem Bundesgleichstellungsgesetz wird angedacht.“
„Es kann nicht sein, dass Menschen mit Behinderungen bei der Gestaltung des öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunks keine Mitsprache haben", sind sich alle einig.
Minister Ostermayer macht sich lächerlich
„Die Volkshilfe als Organisationen der freien Wohlfahrtspflege sollte sich genieren und von so einem Etikettenschwindel Abstand nehmen", rät Martin Ladstätter von BIZEPS-Zentrum für Selbstbestimmtes Leben und wendet sich direkt an Minister Ostermayer: „Was kommt als Nächstes? Nominieren Sie die Katholische Männerbewegung als Frauenorganisation, die Wirtschaftskammer als Arbeitnehmervertretung oder den Pensionistenverband als Jugendorganisation?" - „Herr Bundesminister: Sie machen sich lächerlich!" schließt Ladstätter.
