Matsumoto Castle (松本城, Matsumoto-jō) is one of Japan's premier historic castles, along with Himeji Castle and Kumamoto Castle.[1] The building is also known as the "Crow Castle" (烏城, Karasu-jō) due to its black exterior. It was the seat of the Matsumoto domain. It is located in the city of Matsumoto, in Nagano Prefecture and is within easy reach of Tokyo by road or rail.
The keep (tenshukaku), which was completed in the late sixteenth century, maintains its original wooden interiors and external stonework. It is listed as a National Treasure of Japan.[1]
Matsumoto Castle is a flatland castle (hirajiro) because it is not built on a hilltop or amid rivers, but on a plain.[1] Its complete defences would have included an extensive system of inter-connecting walls, moats, and gatehouses.(Wikipedia)

"Before and during the time of the Mars War, Matsumoto was well underway with the development of a combat synth shell. Their plan was to mass produce this shell and supply them as troops in support of the war effort in favor of ARES on Mars. Only three prototype shells were built, two were sold off to blackmarket dealers by a member of the R&D team who developed the shell, one remains in the ownership of Matsumoto at their Mega LA branch. The board member who backed the project gave a demonstration at a tech expo in Neo Tokyo. This public appearance, however, resulted in his assassination by a yakuza family to whom he owed credits to. His death also resulted in the project becoming abandoned as no one stepped up to spearhead it afterwards. The wrist gun and the helmet two of these shells sport, however, made it into mass production stages as separate items on the market."

Loved visiting Matsumoto. Wonderful town and a beautiful castle. Enjoyed spending the evening getting some shots of it as the sun set and the castle became illuminated.
