I had the good fortune to stop and shoot a couple waterfalls in the New River Gorge in West Virginia last Friday morning, before heading down to North Carolina for a long weekend. Mash Fork Falls is located in Camp Creek State Park and is only a few miles off the interstate, making it a really attractive spot to stop and shoot for a while. I was doubly fortunate that the area had received quite a bit of rain the preceding week, making the falls extremely photogenic.
To style mashed potatoes is a challenge. It is one of this comfortable food which taste heavenly but looks..hmm... definitely does not look stylish.

Mash Fork Falls, Camp Creek State Park & Forest, Mercer County, West Virginia
The New River Gorge photography workshop (Randall Sanger Photography) last month got me to several waterfalls I had not been to before, and back to a few I had shot. The falls on Mash Fork are among the new ones; they are just one of two waterfalls in Camp Creek State Park, which we got to at the end of a long day. Camp Creek State Park was created in 1987 from about 550 acres of Camp Creek State Forest, which has over 5,600 acres adjacent to the park; Mash Fork Falls are, in fact, located in the state forest, just outside the southwest border of the park, just beyond the park's Mash Fork Campground.

This is the MASH unit (Mobile Alvord Sleeping Hut) that we stayed in while at the Alvord Desert. We had plans to camp up on a ridge, but with high winds and low temps in the forecast we opted to stay in this converted shipping container instead. Glad we did too. While I wouldn't say it was warm in there per se, it did protect us from the winds and unexpected snow. Plus it was only a short jaunt from here to hot springs.
