Day 4 of 7 of the black and white food photo challenge. I found this huge mortar and pestle on clearance at Costco earlier this year. I have to admit I haven't used it much but am ready to start spicing things up. Anyone have one? What do you use it for mostly?
Pinnekjøtt (literally "stick meat") is a traditional Christmas & New year eve dish in the western parts of Norway. Pinnekjøtt is usually served with potato and mashed rutabaga. Traditionally, beer and akevitt are served with pinnekjøtt, but it has become increasingly popular to drink red wine instead, perhaps since wine is becoming more popular in general. It bot taste and smells good.
Preparation:
Traditionally the preparation started with fresh sides of lamb ribs being stored in salted brine for a few weeks time. A dry salting for a shorter period of time was also an alternative. The sides are then left to dry in a ventilated and chilled area for 6-8 weeks or longer. Smoking the ribs is also common. The day before the preparation of the meal one would cut the rib into individual bones and dilute them in cold water. The watered down ribs are then steamed, usually but not necessarily, on a grating of birch sticks until tender, typically 3-4 hours.
Though still mostly served in the western parts of the country ("Vestlandet"), pinnekjøtt is gaining popularity in other parts of Norway too.

Mash presses in one of the more modern areas of the former Molson Coors South Brewhouse, in Burton-apon-Trent. This site closed in early 2018 and is now being stripped out, this area, along with the more modern additions will soon be demolished.

We need more pie and mash shops. Delicious with the liquor (a runny green pea sauce). I'd give the jellied eels a wide berth though.
Contre-jour, and probably at F 11. There is a certain drama not just in the sky, but between the two types of energy here - natural and man-made (the sun and electricity produced by power plants). Both we are exposed to and benefitting from. Our mish-mash world.

North Florida Gulf coast near Panacea. The black on the sand is probably tar from an old oil spill (probably the British Petroleum platform fire). Since this isn't a panorama it doesn't have the vertical lines defect that Apple hasn't fixed (after many years). iPhone 8+ photo.

I finally managed to get my act together and paint something. Thanks Less for Photoshoping it together. It is probably my last piece before my trip to the west coast. Also thanks Less again for the sketch which I referenced fro my "T." The same goes to Herbs with my "L." You guys did sketches for me and I never painted either of them. All in all, painting a bunch of different things in one piece is a lot of fun.
We're not sure what kind of animal Fou is --- Fou is simply Fou. Fou and Mash are close companions, though.
