Mars Animation photo...
Valles Marineris, Noctis Labirinthus and north polar cap are clearly visible. The volcanoes Olympus, Arsia, Pavonis and Ascraeus Mons can be seen on the center right.... on the upper left the thin film of Mars atmosphere is also visible.
Realising yesterday that Mars Mission is fifteen years old meant I suddenly had to build another Claw Tank tribute. This one is moving away from the original set and into a more GI Joe design, big and chonk, equal parts aggressive and goofy. I had the large orange treaded WIP lying around for ages (a failed Hibernia digger) so most of that got remixed into this monstrosity.
The GREEN MARS project is in full swing. Already in September 2083 the first four shuttles with twenty technicians and scientists plus tons of building materials and technical equipment landed on Mars.
Within a few weeks, three residential units for 40 people each, a laboratory and a huge greenhouse were erected.
Nevertheless, there are always significant delays because our mission is constantly confronted with unpredictable situations and problems on the red planet.
Just one example: Of all things my living unit couldn’t be connected to the colonies power grid so far.
However, after five months without electricety the technicians provisionally pulled a cable from the generator in shuttle no. 3 across the greenhouse in which some plants are already - contrary to expectations - developing very well.
My current roommate, Prof. Elena Gagarina (a great-great-granddaughter of the cosmonaut Yuri Alexievich Gagarin), is very pleased, because she now can finally blow-dry her hair. I've tried to persuade Elena to take before and aft pics of her hairdo, but unfortunately she refused.
The classic view of the two large Biomes of the Eden Project. The one in the back features the indoor jungle, the one in the front the Mediterranean plants.
Mars is above the mountain and Jupiter is in the top right corner. note a couple of scenic benches located across the pond
Miles out in the desert on a primitive dirt road north of Hanksville, Utah is the Mars Desert Research Station. The volunteers here are preparing to live on Mars, whenever they get a chance to travel there.
Scientific breakthrough!
Documented with a photo - proof that there is water on Mars. ;)
Came to mind while eating one of these candy bars and washing it down with a glass of water...
Lighting: Single LED panel from above, slightly right. White paper as background and in front as reflector for the Mars bar.

I think I caught Mars last night but the fabled green comet, supposedly just to the right of Mars, was more elusive.
The news here is all about a cyclone but it is mainly going to hit the North Island and down here in the south we are probably not going to see that either.

Imagine this. Year 2056. Humans have long since established themselves on Mars and terraforming is starting to show resault. You are one of the crew members who has just arrived. At first sign of daylight, you climb up to the observation post in the bunker in which you live and this is what you see.
Or this; in 1840 they found nickel in this area. 10-15 man worked in a small mine nearby. The ore, that you see here, were stored and transported by horse to the sea during wintertime. It was then shipped to Great Britan and used in the productions of coins. The mine company was shut down after about 60 years of operation.
2550 AD. Mars is finally a colonized planet, scientists have managed to create an atmosphere where we humans can breathe normally and so explore new horizons as we can see it in this picture taken by an AI automated surveillance device, where a couple of young explorers enjoy a pleasurable ballad along the coastline.

Philippine MARS on long final for a emergency landing at Pat Bay. We were driving just outside Cowichan Bay when she came over the highway low and slow. I just had time to pull over, grab my camera and got this shot.
Bitterly cold here but thankfully seeing conditions were conducive to me imaging Mars on opposition day. Poor weather in the early hours meant I was unable to image Mars being occluded by the moon.
Some nice detail is visible including the bright area left-most in the image which is the shield volcano Olympus Mons the largest volcano in the solar system. It rises over 72,000ft or 21.9km! The complex is roughly the size of Poland! It
The curve of the Solis Lacus the so-called "Eye of Mars" (hopefully for obvious reasons!) is visible towards the lower right.
Bluish ice clouds are visible to the lower left limb and on the right limb of the image. The North Polar Hood cloud (top) is still present but is showing signs of degradation.
Imaged with a Celestron C11 and an Explore Scientific Focal Extender. I used separate Baader RGB filters and a ZWO 290MM camera. The filtered images were combined and derotated using Winjupos.
Thanks for looking!!
