Marble Hill is the last complete survivor of the elegant villas and gardens that bordered the Thames between Richmond and Hampton Court in the 18th century.
Marble Hill House was built in 1724ā1729 by Henrietta Howard, the mistress of King GeorgeII to the designs of the architect Roger Morris (1695ā1749) in collaboration with Henry Herbert, 9th Earl of Pembroke.
It is set in 66 acres (2.67 km2) of parkland known as Marble Hill Park. The Great Room contains lavishly gilded decoration and five capricci paintings by Giovanni Paolo Pannini. Marble Hill House also contains a loaned collection of early Georgian furniture and paintings as well as the Chinoiserie collection of the Lazenby Bequest.
Both Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift were regular guests at the house during the lifetime of Henrietta Howard.
Marble Hill House soon became known from published engravings, and it was widely admired for its plan and tightly controlled elevations. Its design was much copied elsewhere, after 1750, and provided a standard model for the English villas built throughout the Thames Valley and further afield, an early example being at New Place, King's Nympton, Devon, built between 1746 and 1749 to the design of Francis Cartwright of Blandford in Dorset.
An archaeological investigation found evidence of what has been described as a bowling alley next to the house in 2017. However, it is likely that game resembled boules as much as bowling and the "alley" (better described as a depression in the ground) does not resemble the modern concept of a bowling alley. The main evidence that the area was used for some sort of bowling rests on contemporary plans.
The house is now owned by English Heritage, which acquired it in 1986 following the abolition of the Greater London Council. Its extensive grounds are known as Marble Hill Park and provide many leisure facilities including rugby and hockey pitches, a cricket pitch and nets, tennis courts, and a children's play area.
In 2015, English Heritage won a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to develop Marble Hill House and its park in order to improve its presentation and the associated leisure facilities. As part of this project Historic England made a range of landscape investigations, including geophysical surveys, aerial photography and lidar mapping, analytical earthwork survey, coring and vegetation analysis to create a clear picture of the development of the Marble Hill landscape from the 17th century onwards.[10] Restoration work on the house included the reinstatement of Georgian colour schemes and renovation of the furnishings and pictures. The works took seven years to complete and cost Ā£8M. The chief execuitve officer of English Heritage, Kate Mavor, described the restored house as āone of the forgotten gems of Georgian London
A Feather from my craft kit and a marble from the bottom of a drawer, put them together and this is what you get.
Its amazing what you see when you start taking macro photos, I didn't realise there were tiny bubbles in the marble until i was editing.

I only have a few vintage marbles, but I find them fascinating. If you want the official bit, this is an antique, handmade, Peewee marble with a Latticino core and 2 pontils. If you're not a collector, you're probably scratching your head. Stop here if the whole thing bores you. :)
If you're still with me, 'Peewee' refers to the size, which is under ½". 'Latticino' describes the swirly part in the middle, which consists of strands of coloured rods that form a lattice-style core when the marble is twisted off the cane. A 'Pontil' is the mark left when a tiny finger of glass is folded over at the cut-off point and partially melted into the marble surface. So, now you know. :)
I love all the little imperfections in the glass of handmade marbles. This particular marble is in near mint condition and was created in Germany between 1880 and 1920.
The background is a small piece of sea glass.

Good Morning from my beautiful misty woodland on my grounds. the Sun is rising, its frosty and misty and yet we are gonna hit 22 degrees later today with plenty of sunshine, singing birds and a very happy dog who will help dig my vegetable garden, have a fabulous Tuesday everyone :) KissThePixel2019
GNRR 8705, unfortunately freshly chop nosed leads a short train down the Marble Hill branch. The short branch uses two switchbacks to reach the quarry at Marble Hill. Unfortunately due to being clueless I managed to miss the train on the switchbacks themselves...
Eroded pillars and reflected green light characterize the striking formations of the Marble Caves, Lago General Carrera, Patagonia. A tiny glimpse of the lake and the shoreline can be seen through the natural 'window'.

Happy "Looking close... on Friday!" with "a single marble".
... and thanks a lot for your views, faves and comments! :-)
Reverse lens with a clear marble and fun kids purse! I love to open the aperture all the way to get fun bokeh with this cool little beaded bag. I may have spent way too much time with these things.
This is a recent shot of Marble, with Nova snuggling his side. Marble has been unwell, and hence his dirty looking chin and front, as we had to force feed him for a few days, and give him a variety of drugs - he is lucky to still be with us. However he is back on the mend, and my wallet is a little lighter owing to vets visits. Turns out he had a bit of stasis and a lung infection.
It is good to see him enjoying his food again, and putting on weight once more.

The falls are at the end of the Marble Falls Trail in Sequoia National Park. I bought ND filters and this was the first time I used them. I also focus stacked this.

Photograph taken in a nature reserve in Warwickshire - This reserve was founded on Lias clay dug out from building a railway embankment in 1844 when a track bed was laid connecting Leamington and Oxford.
This reserve is noted for its abundance of butterflies and wildflowers.
Today, I tagged along on an event that was originally just for business owners and their employees here in North Frontenac that they opened up yesterday to the residents as well.
Only two of us on the tour of local businesses were residents the rest business owners. It was a very worthwhile little tour and I got to meet some really nice business owners here in North Frontenac that I would likely not have met otherwise. I had my lensbaby on the camera for the day.
I took while we were at The Loon's Call on Marble Lake with the Lensbaby Sweet 35 optic in the Canon 1DS Mark III. I have photographed the lake in the past but, I had not ventured past the public beach before.
I want to thank each and everyone who took the time to visit my little space here on Flickr. Have a super day!
Created during my Macro Mondays 'Dutch Angle'' photoshoot.
Taken using extension tubes as usual.
I've got lots of other shots I like, so am flooding my photostream with them.
