Steve Winwood - Night Train

www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg3Xgg61gHk

Out of the night burning with light

Train shining black, I won't look back, life is running

Hoping some day someone will say

I got it made, pull up the shade, let the sun in

Down on the night train, I feel the starlight steal away

Use up a lifetime looking for the break of day

Border patrol looking through me

The towns without names all look the same, I hear crying

Paris to Spain, countries in pain

Caught up in flight, feeling the sight, Europe dying

Down on the night train, feel the starlight steal away

Use up a lifetime looking for the break of day

Rolling on, hear the wheels singing

Fever keeps coming on so strong

My ticket paid, trying to fade, I hope I get there

Not just somewhere I was leaving

Out in the dark all the wolves bark

But I folds my arms try to keep warm by believing

Down on the night train, I feel the starlight steal away

Use up a lifetime looking for the break of day

Hard rain following on, cold wheels moving on

Everybody, they're so alone, down on the night train

Hard rain following on, cold wheels moving on

Everybody, they're so alone, down on the night train

Night train, night train

Hard rain following on, cold wheels moving on

Everybody, they're so alone, down on the night train

Hard rain following on, cold wheels moving on

Everybody, oh, so alone, down on the night train

Night train, night train, night train, night train

Spending time in the garden over the past weeks and months, I find myself collecting all manner of things to bring indoors and photograph. As the garden is full of birds and full of snails too ... well there are always snail shells hidden in unexpected corners! Cleaned and sorted ... a few here in a scallop shell!

This entire roll was marred by marks on the negatives, such as can be seen in this shot. In most cases I was able to remove them with Photoshop, but I wasn't able to deal with this one in a manner I was satisfied with. So I've decided to leave it looking grimy.

I'm not sure what the marks are. At first I thought they were drying marks but, upon closer inspection, they don't look like any drying marks I've encountered previously. I suspect it may be that the film itself has become degraded in some way, perhaps due to it's age, storage, or use.

Seals & Croft - Summer Breeze

www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsW8rXPcnM0

See the curtains hangin' in the window

In the evening on a Friday night

A little light a-shinin' through the window

Lets me know e'rything's alright

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine

Blowin' through the jasmine in my mind

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine

Blowin' through the jasmine in my mind

See the paper layin' in the sidewalk

A little music from the house next door

So I walked on up to the doorstep

Through the screen and across the floor

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine

Blowin' through the jasmine in my mind

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine

Blowin' through the jasmine in my mind

Sweet days of summer, the jasmine's in bloom

July is dressed up and playin' her tune

And I come home from a hard day's work

And you're waitin' there, not a care in the world

See the smile a-waitin' in the kitchen

Food cookin' and the plates for two

Feel the arms that reach out to hold me

In the evenin' when the day is through

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine

Blowin' through the jasmine in my mind

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine

Blowin' through the jasmine in my mind

This is part of the Ebro battlefield (1938), in Southern Catalonia.

This beautiful industrial building is the Celler Cooperatiu de Gandesa, an art nouveau winery, built in 1920 by CĂšsar Martinell. It's one of the so called "Wine Cathedrals" of southern Catalonia.

But it also was a combat scenery for the high watermark of the early Republican ofensive in the Ebro. This was the furthest the Republican soldiers reached, during the siege of Gandesa, specially on the 31th of July.

The Battle of the Ebro (July 25 - November 16, 1938) was the most important and deadlier of the Spanish Civil War. There are those who also consider it the most decisive, but I think that unfortunately the war was already decided long before, at least since the breaking of the front of Aragon on March 9 of the same year.

The battle began with the greatest offensive made by the Republican forces, when they crossed the river Ebro between Mequinensa and Amposta (especially between Riba-roja and Miravet), and advanced to the line La Pobla de Massaluca -Vilalba dels Arcs -Gandesa - Serra de Pandols . But in just 48 hours, the dazzling advance was stopped short. Then Franco decided to crush the republican forces hill by hill (with massive artillery and bomber barrages), in a battle of attrition identical to the First World War for which the Republicans had no resources or alternative, especially with the river behind them. The main assaults, which lasted from August 10 to October 29, were concentrated in a very small and devastated area: the triangle Vertex Gaeta - Corbera - Camposines.

Finally, a final offensive on October 30 occupied the ridge of the Serra de Cavalls, making the entire Republican bridgehead unsustainable, which managed, however, to withdraw in an orderly manner until November 16. But the damage was already done, and there were no forces left for a proper defense of Catalonia, which fell three months later. Then, fascist darkness.

Baby, let's cruise away from here

Don't be confused, the way is clear

And if you want it, you got it forever

This is not a one night stand, baby

Let the music take your mind

Just release, and you will find

You're gonna fly away, glad you're going my way

I love it when we're cruisin' together

The music is played for love

Cruisin' is made for love

I love it when we're cruisin' together

Baby, tonight belongs to us

Everything's right, do what you must

And inch by inch we get closer and closer

To every little part of each other, oh baby yes

Let the music take your mind

Just release, and you will find

You're gonna fly away, glad you're going my way

I love it when we're cruisin' together

The music is played for love

Cruisin' is made for love

I love it when we're cruisin' together

Cruise with me, baby

Cruise with me, baby

Cruisin' (Oooh, oooh, oh)

So good to cruise with you, baby

So good to cruise with you, baby

You and me

Yeah, you and me, baby

Baby, let's cruise

Let's flow, let's glide

Ooh, let's open up and go inside

And if you want it, you got it forever

I can just stay there inside you

And love you baby, oh

Let the music take your mind

Just release, and you will find

You're gonna fly away, glad you're going my way

I love it when we're cruisin' together

The music is played for love

Cruisin' is made for love

I love it when we're cruisin' together

Oh, baby, we gonna fly away

Plan to go my way

I love it when we're cruisin' together

The music is played for love

Cruisin' is made for love

I love it when we're cruisin' together

You're gonna fly away

And you're going my way

I love it when we're cruisin' together

The music is played for love

Cruisin' is made for love

I love it when we're cruisin' together

This beautiful little butterfly is the Common Palmfly - Elymnias hypermnestra - which is found in south and southeast Asia. They love the shade and are most often seen flying in Palm plantations (as this one was) or among vegetation near palm trees. The Palm tree is necessary to these lovely insects because their leaves are the main food of the caterpillar. This one was seen whilst walking through a Palm plantation near our hotel in Khaolak, Thailand.

"...The demeanor of the cactus wren is that of a creature which finds ample interest and enjoyment in life; especially is this true of the immature individuals. The birds of the summer brood remain together for several weeks after leaving the nest, and in little troops of three or four they come fearlessly about houses and perform all manner of clownish antics and acrobatics, all to the accompaniment of a rollicking chatter. I have seen one start from the seat of a wicker chair, run nimbly up the back and over the top, and hang head downward on the other side; often they race back and forth along the ridge of a building with exultant squawks, perhaps clinging to the edge of the roof and twisting their necks to peer underneath. Their curiosity is insatiable; everything must be climbed over, all packages, receptacles, cracks, and crannies looked into and anything inside pulled out if possible. Though the adults lose some of the frivolity, the attitude of good humor seems to remain, and quarrels are few. The only actual battle I recall seeing resulted when one immature bird attempted to bring material to a nest being built by another."

The Eurasian Blue Tit - Parus caeruleus (or Cyanistes caeruleus) - is the only bird native to Britain with blue and yellow plumage. It is a small bird 12cm (4.7in) long with a wingspan of 18cm (7.1in) which loves to eat aphids and other plant pests, grubs and some moths as well as the food we put out in the garden for them. They will nest wherever there is a suitable and safe hole whether that be in a tree, wall, stump or nest boxes and will return to the same hole year after year until one of the pair dies then that hole will more than likely be taken by another pair. This one was seen at Pennington Flash.

On Dec. 4, 2016, Beth Rosengard had the privilege of participating in a workshop called "Cameras and Dancers" where photographers were paired with dancers for the opportunity to shoot them in a myriad of poses. The location for the shoot was Union Station – what seems like a beautiful building that I must see in person one day.

Anyway, her marvelous take on the day can be viewed in her: Cameras and Dancers album.

She graciously has allowed me access to a number of her original shots, of which I have processed in a manner I am calling Blart and Dancers ('blart' - blank canvas art).

Belton House is a Grade I listed country house in Belton near Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. The mansion is surrounded by formal gardens and a series of avenues leading to follies within a larger wooded park. Belton has been described as a compilation of all that is finest of Carolean architecture, the only truly vernacular style of architecture that England had produced since the Tudor period. The house has also been described as the most complete example of a typical English country house; the claim has even been made that Belton's principal facade was the inspiration for the modern British motorway signs which give directions to stately homes. Only Brympton d'Evercy has been similarly lauded as the perfect English country house. For three hundred years, Belton House was the seat of the Brownlow and Cust family, who had first acquired land in the area in the late 16th century. Between 1685 and 1688 Sir John Brownlow and his wife had the present mansion built. Despite great wealth they chose to build a modest country house rather than a grand contemporary Baroque palace. The contemporary, if provincial, Carolean style was the selected choice of design. However, the new house was fitted with the latest innovations such as sash windows for the principal rooms, and more importantly completely separate areas for the staff. As the Brownlows rose from baronets to barons upward to earls and then once again became barons, successive generations made changes to the interior of the house which reflected their changing social position and tastes, yet the fabric and design of the house changed little. Following World War I (a period when the Machine Gun Corps was based in the park), the Brownlows, like many of their peers, were faced with mounting financial problems. In 1984 they gave the house away—complete with most of its contents. The recipients of their gift, the National Trust, today fully open Belton to the public. It is in a good state of repair and visited by many thousands of tourists each year The Brownlow family, a dynasty of lawyers, began accumulating land in the Belton area from approximately 1598. In 1609 they acquired the reversion of the manor of Belton itself from the Pakenham family, who finally sold the manor house to Sir John Brownlow I in 1619. The old house was situated near the church in the garden of the present house and remained largely unoccupied, since the family preferred their other houses elsewhere. John Brownlow had married an heiress but was childless. He became attached to two of his more distant blood relations: a great-nephew, also called John Brownlow, and a great-niece, Alice Sherard. The two cousins married each other in 1676 when both were aged 16; three years later, the couple inherited the Brownlow estates from their great-uncle together with an income of £9,000 per annum (about £ 1.17 million in present day terms) and £20,000 in cash (equivalent to about £ 2.59 million now). They immediately bought a town house in the newly fashionable Southampton Square in Bloomsbury, and decided to build a new country house at Belton. Work on the new house began in 1685. The architect thought to have been responsible for the initial design is William Winde, although the house has also been attributed to Sir Christopher Wren, while others believe the design to be so similar to Roger Pratt's Clarendon House, London, that it could have been the work of any talented draughtsman. The assumption popular today, that Winde was the architect, is based on the stylistic similarity between Belton and Coombe Abbey, which was remodelled by Winde between 1682 and 1685. Further evidence is a letter dated 1690, in which Winde recommends a plasterer who worked at Belton to another of his patrons. Whoever the architect, Belton follows closely the design of Clarendon House, completed in 1667. This great London town house (demolished circa 1683) has been one of the most admired buildings of its era due to "its elegant symmetry and confident and common-sensical design". Sir John Summerson described Clarendon House as "the most influential house of its time among those who aimed at the grand manner" and Belton as "much the finest surviving example of its class". John and Alice Brownlow assembled one of the finest teams of craftsmen available at the time to work on the project. This dream team was headed by the master mason William Stanton who oversaw the project. His second in command, John Thompson, had worked with Sir Christopher Wren on several of the latter's London churches, while the chief joiner John Sturges had worked at Chatsworth under William Talman. The wrought-ironworker John Warren worked under Stanton at Denham Place, Buckinghamshire, and the fine wrought iron gates and overthrow at Belton may be his. Thus so competent were the builders of Belton that Winde may have done little more than provide the original plans and drawings, leaving the interpretation to the on-site craftsmen. This theory is further demonstrated by the external appearance of the adjoining stable block. More provincial, and less masterful in proportion, it is known to have been entirely the work of Stanton.

That picture really sums up wht you get to see on the regular basis when following the icelandic ring road.

On one side, the sea.

It usually comes after a usually short part of flat land.

On the other, a cliff. Unpenetrable, with only one way out : a waterfall if you're a drop.

And some clouds above your head, clouds that filter the sun light in some also usually picturesque manner.

At this moment, the teenager’s pace suddenly paused. Xie Lian’s heart moved, thinking it was because the other boy was about to do something. However, that teenager only stopped for a second before he continued to lead him forward. After two steps, some soft thudding noises echoed from above their heads, like the sound of rain hitting an umbrella. It turned out that a moment ago, the teenager had opened an umbrella before holding it above both of their heads.

Although it wasn’t the time to think this, Xie Lian couldn’t help but praise the teenager for being so thoughtful. However, he felt this was rather odd. Was it raining?

Within the quiet and dark mountains, within the forest filled with thick weeds—in the distant depths of the mountain range, a group of wild wolves faced the moon and howled. Xie Lian didn’t know if it was because a slaughtering fest had just occurred, but within the cold air, the light scent of blood slowly emerged.

This situation and this scenery were both demonically alluring. However, this teenager held his hand with one hand and held up an umbrella with the other as he slowly led him forward. For no reason at all, this made their stroll seem romantic and flirtatious, like they were sincerely in love and inseparable.

That bizarre bout of rain came in a strange manner and left in a strange manner as well. It didn’t take a long while before the sound of raindrops hitting the umbrella disappeared. And that teenager also came to a halt. It seemed like he had put away his umbrella. Simultaneously, he finally let go off Xie Lian’s hand before walking a step closer to him.

The hand that had held his and led him all the way here lightly touched his veil before slowly lifting it up.

Xie Lian had been waiting for this moment for their whole walk here. He didn’t move at all as he watched the lingering red curtain in front of his eyes slowly disappear

For I'm the type of boy

Who is always on the roam

Wherever I lay my hat, that's my home

I'm telling you that's my home

You had romance

Did you break it by chance

Over me?

Mmm, that's my home

Oh, you keep telling me

You keep telling me, I'm your man

What do I have to do

To make you understand?

The large and beautiful cypresses of the cementery path must have been one of the main venues of attack for the Republican soldiers in front of Vilalba dels Arcs. They offer almost the only cover in a valley dominated by the medieval village and it's massive church.
