7 Days with Flickr - CRAZY TUESDAYS : Drop(s)

Weekly Theme Challenge - Water Droplets

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments

One of the resident monks, Geshe Sangpo, was invited to Elon University to create a mandala. Gelshe Sangpo chose to create the Tara Mandala as she's the bodhisattva of compassion and wisdom. Geshe Sangpo is one of few monks in the U.S. who has been trained in creating mandalas of this type. The basic pattern is on a template, but Geshe Sangpo puts the colors down by memory using specific tools in this practice.

Originally mandalas were created from crushed precious jewels. Later sand was used and colored. Now quartz is crushed, colored and used to make mandalas.

When the mandala is finished, there is a closing ceremony where the pattern is brushed into the center representing impermanence - a teaching in Buddhism - all that exists is impermanent.

I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month.

For PEACE, always..

The meaning of mandala comes from Sanskrit meaning "circle."

Even though it may be dominated by squares or triangles, a mandala has a concentric structure. Mandalas offer balancing visual elements, symbolising unity and harmony.

The goal of the mandala is to serve as a tool on our spiritual journey as it symbolises cosmic and psychic order.

The Hindus were one of the first people to use a mandala as a spiritual tool, but the mandalas most individuals are familiar with, are ones made by Buddhists.

These duo-toned roses are small and dainty and non-fragrant.

Thank you and have a peaceful day, M, (*_*)

Geometric pattern created by the glass, steel and reflection in the urban space.

”Mandala” originally means a spiritual symbol of Buddhism and Hinduism which represents the truth of the universe. Sometimes I do feel it in the heart of a big city while looking up at the night sky from the foot of skyscrapers.

This image was edited in order that it looks more like a mandala, after I read a comment on my previous upload “Into the Void”. Thanks always for your kind comment, Anne.

Have a very nice weekend, everyone.

This is a photo of the surf at Clam Harbour Beach that has been mirrored and copied twice to create this beach surf mandala.

I photographed this small lake on the beach of Kijkduin this afternoon with my drone. When I came home I noticed this beautiful mandala on the left of the lake, someone really made some beautiful artwork here!

This image has been taken from the MIX 7 Video in my Photostream. These images are aimed at

patience and frailty

My first attempt at making a mandala, inspired by Karin. I used leaves & miniature flowers from my garden.

I believe it should have a theme - so this is for all of us, especially those who are scared & lonely right now.

Prismacolor art markers on archival paper.

In 2009, an intuitive told me: "You are an artist. If you don't do art, you will die." This surprised me no end because, in my family of origin, my sister had obvious talent and was labeled "the artistic one." Though I enjoyed art, I'd never before identified myself, or been identified by anyone else, as an artist. Immediately, knowing nothing about art materials or technique, I bought some art supplies and started making art. This is one of those first efforts, a series of mandalas. Interestingly, in studies of children's artistic development, the first shapes they express, across cultures, is the circle. So I suppose, in the mandalas, I was recapitulating the stages in my own artistic development. The circle shape had quite a grip on me. Hard to say whether I was making the mandalas, or they were expressing themselves through me. (In this one, I left a little 'escape hatch' in the upper left quadrant.)

Good thing about the wax is you can allways turn it into something else.

Mandala (मण्डल) is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". In the Hindu and Buddhist religious traditions, their sacred art often takes a mandala form. The basic form of most Hindu and Buddhist mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a centre point. Each gate is in the shape of a T.

These mandalas, concentric diagrams, have spiritual and ritual significance in both Buddhism and Hinduism.[3][4] The term is of Hindu origin and appears in the Rig Veda as the name of the sections of the work, but is also used in other Indian religions, particularly Buddhism. In the Tibetan branch of Vajrayana Buddhism, mandalas have been developed into sandpainting. They are also a key part of anuttarayoga tantra meditation practices.

In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of aspirants and adepts, as a spiritual teaching tool, for establishing a sacred space, and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. According to David Fontana, its symbolic nature can help one "to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises." The psychoanalyst Carl Jung saw the mandala as "a representation of the unconscious self,"[citation needed] and believed his paintings of mandalas enabled him to identify emotional disorders and work towards wholeness in personality.

In common use, mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the Universe from the human perspective.
