Anoke came to the Maryland Zoo a little over a month ago. Just this week the keepers have introduced her, on the right to the male polar bear, Magnet.

I was testing a new reflection technique. There's more to come with this sub unit (possibly) and a lot more with the technique to make the sub unit.
There's a reason all of the photos use that blue background, and this is the reason. You'll notice that the camera's auto focus focused on the more detailed background than the magnets.

Started to play with quadrilateral and single strand layering (with an aircraft in mind) and came up with this design. This one is based sort of on a manta ray shape.
It started out with a central two layered strand.Then for each layer outward, an inter-meshed (non-parallel) single strand chain (layer) was added to the sides. Then the next layer was added on top. Then repeat alternating top and bottom layers to create the staggered layering.
Wing layering follows same the alternating top and bottom layering scheme radiating outward with symmetric wing lines.
The engine tubes are 2 x (6-hex rings x 7 = outer) and 2 x (6-hex rings x 8 = inner) with a single chain spacer. Cover is two extended hexagons modded.
The cockpit are modified stacked extended hexagons.
Front cephalic lobe tips and wing tips are folded modified stacked extended hexagons.
The area between the cockpit and the engines is hexagon stacked with a folded modified larger hexagon with front layers removed.
4 x 4-ball coupled chain with hexagon from makes up the front gun.
Think of building the base shape one chain strand at a time like the rigid stick method with staggered layering to get the non-straight edging.

224 - Magnet Hat: Last month, Fermilab received delivery of the g-2 (pronounced "gee minus two") magnet from Brookhaven Lab on Long Island (NY, USA). We had a big party to celebrate. I posted a picture of this celebration on day 207, and you can see the big magnet there. The hat on this little girl is a balloon replica of the g-2 magnet, which I think is pretty clever! (I waited to post it today because I wanted to have her mother's permission first, which I now have.) via 500px 500px.com/photo/43071678
This is the back of me car, I decided that I would get some awesome magnet paper and make pretty things on my car, Unfortunately some of the stars were too small and kept falling off and the design on the magnet paper rubbed off, leaving it just plain silver which is fine for the stars but not the name... so I took it all down
I love those little super magnets. The actual note board is smaller in real life than in this picture.
I'm not sure how high the numbers count up to, but this is only a very small part of the ring of magnets.

Detail of top and bottom blocks with all holes drilled and top magnet seated. I drilled the top hole 31/64" and pressed the 1/2" diameter magnet into place.
Here I show the steps to make a stronger octagon.
Because it "fills in" the empty hole in an octagon while still maintaining the traditional octagon shape, this octagonal shape is much more rigid, and can be used on builds that would otherwise be too "floppy" to stand alone. You can also make larger variations as seen in the top version. It's really handy for only costing four more magnets than a regular octagon depending on the size.
Builds also looks better (in my opinion) without the rather large holes in the center of the the octagon.
