The staff of Brookhaven's National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) have completed a preliminary test of one of the project’s critical design issues -- to determine how closely the magnets stay aligned when they are moved from their assembly point to the NSLS-II tunnel. The results confirm that the magnets’ high-precision alignment would survive the process of transporting and installing and fixing the girders to the ground in the tunnel.

I was looking for ideas for magnets and came across these pretty ones. Many of theme are upcycled/recycled that use items that are no longer needed (e.g., game pieces, inside of junk mail security envelopes, business cards, maps, bottle caps, buttons).

these have become hotly collected items (not only among kids).
they fetch pretty high prices online auctions (such as Yahoo! Taiwan's auction site).
Magnets from trips I've taken, and from places that friends and family have visited. There are some random ones, too, like the Gary Payton trading card-cum-magnet (which belongs to my brother), two magnetic bottle openers, and various dog-related ones as well.
I'd like to add more magnets this year. We'll see, by October, when I get to travel again.
Climbing the hill out of Sugar Grove, IL and blowing it's horn for the Gordon Rd highway crossing that I am at, is the magnetation ore train from Minnesota to Indiana. A new train that looks like a gondola train from far away, but the cars are specially made to haul this specific type of iron ore. As a typical ore train would have, it sports two units at the head end and one on the rear shoving.

Continuing to experiment with the magnetic powder. I wet the powder first then allowed a strong magnet to pick up the entire mushy clump. Curious to see how this one ages.
Though Kathy made these in March 2012, G only recently (as of Dec. 2012) began using them in earnest as a tool to tell us what he wants to eat.
