Brookhaven National Laboratory's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) is really two accelerators in one — made of crisscrossing rings of superconducting magnets, enclosed in a tunnel 2.4 miles in circumference. In the two rings, beams of heavy ions are accelerated to nearly the speed of light in opposite directions, held in their orbits by powerful magnetic fields.

A very old, slightly rusty, horseshoe magnet. The rust on the bottom of the top "leg" is a helpful reminder that magnets are made from iron.

Cute little polymer clay magnets.
I used my rose and stripe canes and formed the hearts in halves. To some of the hearts, I added little dots. After baking I added a black wash to give them an aged look, and then sealed them with a matte finish.
You can see how I made the canes here: treewingsstudio.blogspot.com/2009/09/making-hearts-roses-...
6x3-magnet cylinders. 4 cylinders make an extended tetrahedron, which are then packed in a face-centered cubic configuration.

The ladies of Cass Corridor come out at night to answer the call of, "30 bucks enough?"
Now these classy skanks can hold up your grocery list or assorted memos for you between tricks. They are made of plastic and each trashy ho is backed with two magnets to make sure she stays in place.

1X base peripera
2X OPI is that silva?
e esses brilhinhos dele, são fofos demais!!!
This car is for a project on school with magnets :) .
It is a simple and nice car.
The magnet is inside, between the windows.
You can build it too, is very simple! ;)
P.S. This is an own idea :)
My newest venture.

Shot from my hotel room. Watching the girls move through the crowd is like watching a magnet aligning so many compass needles.

Hand-rendered with black pigment pen, then handpainted using Windsor Newton watercolors. I made these for a woman in the UK for the magnet swap on Swap-bot. They were so much fun I will be making more and posting them to my shop on Etsy.
I had recently scored a ton of magnets from Starbuck's after their Akeelah and the Bee promotion ended. They are thin and wonderful to embellish; PVA loves them. They were long so I split them in half to make them last longer and because I thought smaller magnets would be more appealing; these are about 3-3.5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide.
All the paper and paper embellishments were supplied by Autumn Moon Paper. I've made notes on the photo as to which is which.

There's so much to explain about all the stuff magnetically slapped onto this refrigerator, but that would take far too long. Roll your mouse over the photo and take a look at the notes I've put up. That'll explain the most controversial pieces.
I started collecting magnets back when I was fortunate enough to travel yearly for a work conference. The "Southernmost Point" one was the first ... I liked Key West so much I took my wife there.
I wish I could say I've been to Seoul, but that was a gift from my niece
Weekly Photo assignment...............I think this should be an interesting subject to see every ones magnets...........come on, we all have magnets on our refrigerators.

Using a series of Neodymium magnets, I cleaned up my desk, picking up the trimmed off LED legs from a project I had just soldered together. (An Adafruit LoL Shield - www.adafruit.com/products/274)
The legs stuck to the magnet, orientating themselves to match the magnetic field lines coming from the strong magnet.
In leu of buying/making fancy fixtures for holding braze-ons while I braze them on, I mostly use magnets. High temperature magnets*. They only cost about $4.00 each and you can use them to hold just about anything. Love it.
*The magnets themselves are not hot. Well they do get hot during brazing. But common magnets are made from a ceramic and when you get them up to brazing temperatures they kind of explode all over the place. These are made from sintered metals and can withstand temps over 500 deg. and still work just fine.
