A Low-key lighting test.

Compositional Treasure Hunt

Model: Denise Ayson

For this lowkey image, I was looking to create an in-focus shot of the head of the decorative owl with a blurred background so I chose to use f/4.5. I was using a consistent ISO of 200 at the time, and so in order to create a good exposure of the owl, I went with a shutter speed of 1/40th second.

"Circles" was the theme of the month at my local photo group. This is a crop of a shot I took the night of the showing. I should have dusted first!!!

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

Topaz Labs Low Key 1 filter processed in Photoshop CS6

Shot using natural light from a big bay windown and using a dark piece of furniture behind to throw the background into darkness. I also dialed in -2EV to keep the exposure how I wanted. No photoshopping taken place (or at least nothing major if I have done anything!).
