Looking close... on Friday! theme : Toy Cars

The toy cars in my picture were used by my husband when he was a young boy. On one of them, a small wheel is missing. The accident happened a long time ago! Nobody remembers who was responsible. My husband swears it was not him! Yeah, right! 😉

One can say that an abused toy is most certainly a good toy. There is no doubt that he liked these toys!

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments

The Red Faerie knows where to find the very best magical red mushrooms and toadstools in the forest with the assistance of the Red Cardinals and Red Robbins in the trees and her red eyed grey wolf, whose nose can sniff them out from a mile away.

The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday!” is “mushrooms”.

I thought my Playmobil fungi were a suitable choice.

Two of the wonderful things that attract people, young and old alike, to Playmobil are their vibrant colours and the array of different items that are produced.

Playmobil is a line of toys produced by the Brandstätter Group, headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany. Production began in 1974. Playmobil began to be sold worldwide in 1975, and by 2009, approximately 2.2 billion Playmobil figures had been sold. The signature Playmobil toy is a 7.5 cm tall human figure with a particular smiling face. A wide range of accessories, buildings and vehicles, as well as many sorts of animals, are also part of the Playmobil line. Playmobil toys are produced in themed series of sets as well as individual special figures and playsets. New products and product lines developed by a 50-strong development team are introduced frequently, and older sets are discontinued. Promotional and one-off products are sometimes produced in very limited quantities. These practices have helped give rise to a sizeable community of collectors.

It's nice to have clothes with one's name sewn inside – this is the trade name of clothes sold by the ASDA supermarket chain. It is named after the clothes designer George Davies.

I’ve had many pencil sharpeners so far in my life but there’s something about hacking away at a pencil with a knife - think its because my Dad used to do it.

A tart is a baked dish consisting of a filling over a pastry base with an open top not covered with pastry. The pastry is usually shortcrust pastry; the filling may be sweet or savoury, though modern tarts are usually fruit-based, sometimes with custard.

"I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick." – Audrey Hepburn

There is something special, stylish and seductive about lipstick. It promotes beauty, elegance and luxury with the simple twist of a baton and a swipe of application. Even the advertisements for lipstick are glamourous!

The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday” on the 15th of January is “lipstick”, so this is my idea for an advertisement for lipstick using a gold Art Deco baton from the 1930s which once contained a tube of red lipstick and a tube of Coral Colours ‘Raisin’ and MAC ‘Paramour’ lipstick.

Lipstick is a cosmetic that applies protection, texture and mostly colour to the lips. Based on cosmetic cases found at archaeological sites dating back five thousand years, it is thought that Ancient Sumerians were the first to wear lipstick. These ancient cosmetics were made by mixing crushed gemstones with oils and waxes. Ancient Egyptians also wore red lipstick as an indicator of social status. Although the name originally applied to the baton (stick) of material, within a tubular container, usually around ten milimeters in diameter and fifty milometers in length, the term now generally relates to the material itself, regardless of method of application.

Neutral Colours. Subtle and understated appearance. Simply pretty.

Little Wood Satyr butterfly, seen in a grassy area with small bushes and trees, alongside the woodland...

For “Looking close… on Friday!” theme of “Small Animals with Wings”

Happy Friday! Have a nice day! :-)

Some info from Wikipedia

The little wood satyr, is a butterfly species of the Satyrinae family that occurs in North America.

The wingspan is 29–48 mm. The forewing has two yellow-rimmed black eyespots on both sides, dorsal and ventral. The hindwing has two spots on the dorsal side but have smaller spots on the ventral. The over all color is light brown.

It can be observed in forests, usually along the edges and in brush-filled openings along cleared forest roads. It has also been observed in grassy areas usually between forested patches. It flies near the ground, twisting between and through grasses, small trees and bushes. This butterfly prefers habitat that is open, contains deciduous trees along with marshy areas and possessing brushy cover.

Range and habitat

They are seen in the eastern United States and southeastern Canada, from Nova Scotia south into Florida, west to Texas, Saskatchewan and Wyoming. As the name implies the little wood satyr is most commonly seen in woods and shrubby areas.

Life cycle

Adults in the northern portions of their range fly between June and July while their southern populations fly between March and September. Adults have a slow "bouncing" flight but they will rise as far as the top of tall trees. Females lay eggs singly on grass, the fourth-instar caterpillars hibernate.
