Not having a real sucker, I hope you will enjoy my homemade Peanut Butter Cookie lollipop. It’s crumbley but it’s good. I just wanted to take part in this week’s trip to Looking Close…on Friday without going to the store. Yes I apologize for not being prepared. I do have a tendency to fly from my hip!
BOGART: “Daddy! Daddy do you like my outfit?”
DADDY: “Oh yes I do, Bogart! Have you been playing in the dress-ups box?”
BOGART: “Well… yes and no.” *Blushes pink beneath fluffy white plush.*
DADDY: “What do you mean, ‘yes and no’, little Bogart?”
BOGART: “Well, the gold crown came from the dress-ups prop and costume box.”
DADDY: “And the fur?”
BOGART: “Well, I borrowed that from your… your…”
DADDY: “Yes? My what, Bogart?”
BOGART: “Your wardrobe, Daddy?” *Winces.*
DADDY: “Ah, I thought I recognised that Marmot fur.”
BOGART: “It does suit me, doesn’t it?” *Spins around.*
DADDY: *Sighs.* “Yes little Bogart, you look very regal.”
BOGART: “Oh thank you, Daddy!” *Smiles.* “Do you think you might take my picture to send to Mama Kim and the Riversong and Lagniappe Bear Clans?”
DADDY: “I don’t see why not Bogart. Smile and say ‘royalty’!”
BOGART: “Royalty!”
The theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 30th of April is “fluffy”. When I thought of the theme, I immediately thought of my fluffy soft bear family. Bogart has particularly fluffy fur, and my vintage Marmot fur cape is also particularly fluffy. Therefore, putting them together seemed to be the only logical choice. I hope that you think so too, and that this photograph makes you smile!
Bogart has only arrived to live with me in the last few months. He has travelled all the way from Georgia, via Alabama as a gift to me from a friend. I can already say that he has lovely Southern manners and seems to be a fun and gentle soul with an inquisitive nature which sometimes gets him into difficulties, particularly if it involves climbing trees!

The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday” on the 23rd of April is “arrow or dart”. I thought about arrows (as I have no aptitude or interest in darts, except the ones used in making clothes) and I liked the clean lines of the one-way signs. However, I wanted something for a colour contrast. As someone who marches to the beat of my own drum, I envisioned pairs of shoes all following the rules, except for one pair: the pair that is the rulebreaker and marches to the beat of their own drum. I hope you approve and like my creation for the theme.
After using a pair of beautiful 1:12 size miniature red slippers from my miniatures collection for the group’s previous themes of “sprinkles” and “red and white”, I thought I might use them again, along with several other pairs I have subsequently acquired for this week’s theme. All the pairs of shoes are a centimetre in height and length, except the boots which are two centimetres in height.
The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday” on the 12th of March is “sprinkles”. Luckily, I have a stock of these in my pantry, as my partner has a weakness for hundreds and thousands sprinkled on buttered white bread. This purely Australian delicacy is known delightfully as “fairy bread”, and it is usually served at children’s birthday parties. The idea of the hundreds and thousands sprinkled on white bread gave me the inspiration for this shot. These beautiful red slippers with their pretty bows are 1:12 size miniatures from my collection and are made of metal.

Looking close... on Friday! - Green
The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 2nd of April is “picture with added text”. Anyone who follows me will recognise many of the furry plush faces in this group photo, for this is my bear family. From right to left: Bogart, Jago, Cousin Paddington, Growly Bear, Scout (holding his precious Red Riding Hood Dolly) and Paddy. Although not the eldest bear in this picture (that honour being bestowed upon Growly Bear who is a century old) Paddy is my original bear. As he is a Paddington Bear made for me by my Great Aunt and given to me when I was two years old, I have naturally grown up with Michael Bond’s books about the bear from deepest darkest Peru found at Paddington railway station. Therefore, I thought for the theme this week, a quote from Michael Bond’s first book, “A Bear Called Paddington” was an appropriate choice. I do hope you like my choice of quote, and my beautiful bear family. I love them all dearly. I believe that a house is not a home without at least one bear living in it!
My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.
He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
Travelling all the way from London, Cousin Paddington was caught in transit thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic. After so long here he has decided to stop with us permanently. That makes me happy, as the more I look into his happy, smiling face, the more attached I am becoming to him.
Jago is a recent addition to my ever-growing family. A gift from a dear friend in England, he is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.

Growly Bear, the big yellow mohair bear with a somewhat stern face, was bought for my Grandmother from Hamley's Toy Shop in London in 1922. He is covered in mohair and has amber glass eyes, has articulated arms, legs and a head, and was named Growly Bear because he used to growl when you turned him upside down. He was still growling when my Mother was a child. My Uncle, born three years after my Mother, christened him The Big One, because he was the biggest teddy bear in the nursery. When he came to me as a child, I amalgamated the two names and called him, Big Growly Bear.

Always magical to see the otters. I photographed this one a few days ago. I’ve then photographed the inverted image, refracted through water droplets on a bamboo twig.
