The frothy product of my new Power Juicer Pro juicer - yummy!
It's an apple and orange concoction, which upon consideration is probably not the best choice of colors for red scale film. :)

So today's picture is a reenactment of two events from earlier..
The first one is when I went to the mailbox to return the most recient netflix - somehow I'd dropped my phone. So here it is, an hour or two later, a total stranger comes up to the door and says "Is this your phone, I have your mom on the line"
He had been jogging past when he heard my Dr Who theme ringtone going off as my mom was calling. She directed him to my place and he was kind enough to retun it.
And then, later that same day, I drop 10 bucks at the ATM was I was making a deposit, and someone walking past asked if that was my money instead of just going "Cool! 10 bucks!" and scooping it up.
I figure I've used up my good karma for the year.
Oh yeah, look at that! I'm a professional photographer! Okay, that's my second sale in a decade and I've made a whopping 60-ish bucks in total - or about 1/100th of what I've dropped on gear - but I'm still a professional!

My initial reservations about shooting redscale film were trumped by downright surprise at just how nice it is. This stuff is gold! . . . but then, Gastown could make any film look brilliant.

A cool, rusty auto shop sign in Ballard, as seen through the backwards redscale film.
Redscale, according to Wikipedia, is the name given to a technique of shooting film where the film is exposed from the wrong side, through the emulsion. Normally, this is done by winding the film in upside-down into an empty film canister - but in this case, I got specially loaded film from Lomography..
The name "redscale" comes because there is a strong color shift to red due to the red-sensitive layer of the film being exposed first, rather than last. All of the layers are sensitive to blue light, so normally the blue layer is on top, followed by a filter. In this technique, blue light exposes the layers containing red and green dyes, but the layer containing blue dye is left unexposed due to the filter.
In other words, it comes out funky red-ish tones.
