Came across a picturesque lock and some barges...

The Strömsholm Canal (Swedish: Strömsholms kanal) runs from Smedjebacken to Lake Mälaren near Strömsholm. It is 62 miles long with 26 locks. It consists of a string of lakes connected by short manmade cuts.

The canal took 18 years to build, between 1772 and 1795, to plans laid out by Johan Ullström. The main reason for it was the transport of iron produced by the many steelworks sited along the length of the waterway. The opening of the Stockholm Wästerås-Bergslagen railway marked the beginning of its decline and today the restored canal is only used by pleasure craft.

Lock-Arm Awnings, also known as Automatic Awnings (not to be confused with what can be achieved through awning motorisation), are a practical solution that provide excellent protection against UV and still allow for ventilation, as they slightly project off their operating rail. With their spring-loaded mechanism, they also maintain a taut surface which not only looks neat but also provides some resistance to light winds.

This is Enlarged Erie Canal Lock 61 (Upper Macedon Lock), , built in 1862. This is a view of the south chamber which is filled with alot of greenery. I had to walk through an old enclosed walkway , pedestrian covered bridge, to get this shot ( it appears that they don't use this walkway anymore--it was in bad shape and there was some broken glass ) . This pedestrian covered bridge served as a walkway which allowed the employees that worked in the Plastics Plant to cross over the old canal bed to get to the parking lot on the other side of it. This is a double chamber lock with the other chamber being used as an active spillway for Lock 30 of the Barge Canal. This is located in the village of Macedon, NY off of Route 31. You turn onto Route 31 F/ 350 and it is next to the empty parking lot to your right just across the street from the present Barge Canal Lock 30. This lock is sorta hidden with bushes and hard to see.

PA, Harrisburg PA, State Street Bridge.

Locked door on the street level of the State Street Bridge in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The bridge was designed by William Gehron and Sidney F. Ross and is also known as The Soldiers and Sailors Bridge. Construction of the bridge was completed in 1930.

This is Enlarged Erie Canal Lock 53. It was a double chamber lock - built in 1841 with a second chamber added in 1874 and the north chamber being lengthened in 1888. This view is looking east from the head of the lock down the north chamber. As you can see, even in mid-April it was already a bit overgrown and difficult to get a good shot. The south chamber was totally impossible to even get near for a shot. I'll keep trying but by summer this lock will be so totally covered with foliage that it will be completely hidden from view.

Lock 32, Erie Canal, Pittsford.

This view shows a section of the Enlarged Erie Canal Lock 61 (Upper Macedon Lock) which was built in 1862. This is the north chamber, looking southeast.. This chamber is used as a spillway for Lock 30 of the modern Erie Barge Canal so there is fast running water moving through it. It is a double chamber lock. It was referred to as the Upper Lock, as there were two Enlarged Erie Canal locks in Macedon at that point in time. It is not maintained so due to all the brush and assorted greenery it is difficult to see . It is located off of Route 31 on Route 31 F/ 350 in the village of Macedon across the road from Erie Barge Canal Lock 30.
