During the UK wide COVID-19 lockdown I was finding it frustrating that I couldn't really venture out and shoot the sort of things I normally do. So with plenty of time on my hands indoors, I decided to set myself a little challenge, to document my family in as simple a way as possible.
Basically all I used was one main camera - my Sony A7iii and one lens - my Sigma ART 35mm f/1.4. I would shoot only in camera JPEG and use the in camera black and white profile.
In post process, all I did was some simple crop and rotation corrections. Im sure I have one leg bigger than the other - always seem to be wonky!
I really like the set of images and I might make a little book out of them. I think it captures our moods quite well. Happy one moment, and bored and sad the next.
Kinda glad we can venture out a bit more these days; even if we aren't completely out of the woods yet. The freedom feels amazing....!
Anxiety is a meteor shower of what-ifs. The sky is falling, and it’s falling disproportionately on you. Anxiety ain’t fun!
One would think Christians would be exempt from anxiety, but we are not. It’s enough to make us wonder if the apostle Paul was out of touch with reality when he wrote in Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing.”
Is that what he meant? Not exactly. He wrote the phrase in the present active tense— implying an ongoing state…as if to say Don’t let anything in life leave you perpetually breathless and in angst. The presence of anxiety is unavoidable, but the prison of anxiety is optional.
Could you use some calm? Of course you could. We all could! We all could use a word of comfort. And God is ready to give it.

I was passing between the neo-Classical pillars of the Royal Scottish Academy on one of my Lockdown daily walks, and paused for a few moments, camera peering between the pillars to look at the pedestrian crossing where Hanover Street meets Princes Street, and shot a few snaps of people coming and going across it.
Today's 'Lockdown' walk (and protecting my highlights practice!) included Caterham Barracks ... Home of the Guards Depot until 1995. This is the wall of the old Gymnasium ... now home to a community centre, which is sadly closed due to the imposed lockdown.
This is near Weir Wood Reservoir, Sussex. It was our first short drive out for the permitted exercise since the UK lockdown began on 23rd March.
During lockdown, I set about making some portraits of my neighbours here on the canal. I made a print for everyone. Some were longlisted for Rankin’s 2020 on Sky Arts, but I don’t think they made the final cut.
Today is weekly shopping day so 8 am trip up the town and then home to unpack. Coffee and then a walk up the town for the last few bits prescriptions fridge deodoriser and bits not available in the main supermarket. I took the camera with me and stood in the middle of our usually hectic road for the first image then the car park which is free so always cars waiting for spaces and then the rammed skateboard park. So lockdown does appear to have changed things at its start how long it will last we will see.

Today there was a tragic murder-suicide on campus. Until that was confirmed, it was an active shooter situation, and the whole campus was on lockdown. My coworkers and I sheltered in place in my office, barricaded the doors, and watched the news for any updates. This photo is of my computer screen as teams of officers were getting in position near the Engineering IV building.

Didn't sleep well last night due to dry cough (no fever). Did a bit of work. After lunch nap to catch up on sleep. Felt a bit rough for a while. Mopped the hall floor. Shuffled round the garden and admired the strong sunshine, cloudless sky, and the quiet - traffic noise from the main road about 200 metres away has almost disappeared. Took this photo. The Solar PV panels quietly generate electricity until the shadow of the chimney reduced output.
Several weeks of lockdown is going to be hard work.
As the lockdown continues in the UK, signs of the crisis can be seen everywhere. Here, at a local golf course, the flag stick has been removed and the ball wash covered and sealed in a black bag to avoid any chance of contamination. Hopes of re-opening in a week are fast diminishing as the UK death toll nears 5000.
From mid-March for over four months in 2020, we were in lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Our only escape was along the country lanes behind our house. Fortunately it was a good spring and there was plenty of flora and fauna about.

The UK is saying a big 'thank you' in any way they can to all key workers that are putting their lives on the line to get us all through the corona virus.

Bad rain today so not worth going out for me. Thought I would upload a set of 5 shots of the old Jetty @ Snettisham. We all take photos of it in it's various moods & tide states. first 3 taken with my Panasonic over several years, the last two taken in March this year with the P1000 just before I went into lockdown for 3 months!
This old Jetty was destroyed in the very big tidal surge January 1953 & is slowly getting worn down by the big seas when we have another storm. I do have an album of shots of this jetty over several years entitled "In memory of January 31st !953"
