Back in Scotland for today's photos. This was taken yesterday at Loch Ard. Its starting to get very autumnul here.

Loch Shiel

Lochaber, Highland, Scotland.

Loch Shiel is the location of the fictional Black Lake near Hogwarts in the film versions of the Harry Potter series.

This beautiful loch in the Scottish Highlands, has been used various times throughout the films as the backdrop for Hogwarts.

A long exposure of the sky last night over loch Leven in the Scottish Highlands.

The Ross of Mull is the south-western peninsula of the Isle of Mull, the third largest island of the Hebrides of Scotland. It is an area of outstanding beauty, approximately 20 miles long, an area of fascinating geology and a haven for nature.

Above Loch Tay

It is a long narrow loch of around 14.55 mi (23.42 km) long, and typically around 1 to 1½ miles wide, following the line of the valley from the south west to north east. It is the sixth largest loch in Scotland by area and over 150 m (490 ft) deep at its deepest.

Loch Linnhe at Onich, in the Scottish Highlands.

Loch Tay (Scottish Gaelic, Loch Tatha) is a freshwater loch in the central highlands of Scotland, in the Perth and Kinross and Stirling council areas.

An Autumnal scene at Loch Ard. A little cloudy and colourless in the sky but the lovely tones in the trees and bushes and that soft focus reflection makes it worth while.

Today’s post is another view of the broken jetty at Loch Gelly at sunset.

The shot is a little less HDR than my usual fare with only two frames capturing foreground and sky so that means that the sun is a little burned out and losing detail whereas the shadows are a little deeper than I would normally like. However, I was taken by the depth of colour in these frames which was too dark for the lowest exposure and too bright in the highest. So I chose to use only the middle two and concentrate on pulling out the nice tones in the water and the lower clouds.

I’m still trying to figure out how to capture long exposure but still see some movement in the turbines. Perhaps I’ll get that worked out for the next visit.

Loch Tummel is a long, narrow loch, 7 km north west of Pitlochry in the council area of Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is fed and drained by the River Tummel, which flows into the River Tay about 13 km south-east of the Clunie Dam at the loch's eastern end.

Loch Trool is a narrow, freshwater loch in Galloway, in the Southern Uplands in south-west Scotland. It lies in an elevated position in Glen Trool in the Galloway Forest Park

In April 1307 Robert the Bruce fought and won the Battle of Glen Trool on the shores of the loch. On its north side stands Bruce's Stone which commemorates the victory.

Loch Trool is also reported to be the darkest place in the UK at night.

Loch Maree is a loch in Wester Ross in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. At 21.7 km long and with a maximum width of four kilometres, it is the fourth-largest freshwater loch in Scotland; it is the largest north of Loch Ness. Its surface area is 28.7 km².

.. In Strath Conon, Scottish Highlands.

Beautiful surroundings to fish in .

The image today is a panoramic shot looking north over Loch Leven towards Bishop Hill and catching part of the escarpment of Benarty hill from where the image was taken.

This image was taken just as the sun was descending over the horizon leaving the hills illuminated by the last rays but the basin of the loch was already in near darkness. Only the reflected light from the skies prevented the water area being too dark to work with.

This shot is a four frame horizontal panorama with HDR processing to bring out more of the colour range. The entire photoshop image is about 4GB in size which makes it a little difficult to work with but it’s worth it when I’m able to capture a nice scene like this. I have another version of this image where I have another frame to the left but that shot contains the sun which was just too bright and burned the frame out. I may still use it because I like the fact that the loch is complete in that image and this one feels a little stunted by chopping off the western edge of the water.

I enjoy producing panorama images like this because it makes the whole experience of seeing this first hand easier to comprehend but the time and effort it takes to post process this makes it something that I don’t do all that often. I could have post processed about a dozen long exposure images in the time it required to blend all these frames together. Please let me know if it was worth the effort. Thanks.

Like hole Ness this lake also has his own monster called muc-sheilch. Hole Maree is looked as one of the nicest lakes of highlands in Scotland. On account of the seclusion rules there little tourism.

A nice calm day on Loch Tummel a few years ago.

Some nice reflections on Loch Tummel this morning.

This was taken on the edge of Loch Lomond in Scotland, it was a real challenge for a couple of reasons, firstly it was pouring down with rain so trying to hold an umbrella whilst taking nd filters in and out required more hands than I actually have and secondly, MIDGES!!! No hand free to swipe them away and having to stand still with the umbrella over the camera for long exposures, pure torture!!!!

This interesting little island is in Loch Druim Suardalain in Scotland.

With a lovely splash of light hitting the slopes of Beinn a' Mhuinidh.

Frosty spring morning. Gentle fog and perfect lack of wind

Sunset at this big Loch In Inverness Shire, Scottish Highlands.

From the slopes of Beinn Mheadhoin we look back and have a great view of the high Cairngorm plateau reflected in the waters of Loch Etchachan.

Beinn Mheadhoin (pronounced Bane Vee-arrn) meaning 'The Middle Hill' stands at 1182 meters (3878 feet) and is my 14th Munro. The summit plateau is strewn with some spectacular granite rocky tors and lies at the remote heart of the Cairngorms. The cycle in up Glen Derry was 6.7 miles, with a further 3.7 hike to reach the summit. With the return, the days sees me covering 21 miles Bike & Hike.

One from last summer and an idyllic early morning visit to this famous loch in the Cairngorms.

A storm had raged through the night and when I rose early to have a look it had passed. So I dressed quickly and was of down to the loch. The mountains in the background are part of the Cairingorms, mountains that I had climbed now and then. Conditions were perfect and I got to work.

Went back to my spot at Loch Lomond this evening. I’d been there earlier last week to get this shot however the image was slightly out of focus. I liked the way this turned out and love my new firecrest 13 stop. Have a peaceful weekend.

Mire Loch is a freshwater loch on the west side of St. Abbs Head in the Scottish Borders. And if you go to the far end of the loch you see this: "Surprise view" flic.kr/p/2h6jUXb

This area was originally marshy and unusable, and so was flooded and is now part of the St. Abbs Head National Nature Reserve, providing a home for freshwater-loving birds.

I would have liked to have got down to a lower pov but the swan's approach was too swift!
