Although very localized to very south central Montana in open dry settings, Astragalus hyalinus (the bluish green mats) occurs on a diversity of substrates and in different sagebrush communities, including those dominated by Wyoming big sagebrush, black sagebrush, and birdfoot sagebrush, Artemisia pedatifida, as shown here. Machaeranthera grindelioides, Platyschkuhria integrifolia, Stipa comata, and Agropyron spicatum are also common in this view. This site is in the sagebrush steppe just to the east of Warren Montana.

Very often rain may fall with seemingly little impact to the levels of the reservoirs. This can occur when the rainfall is localized to a single small area, or when rain falls in certain areas that are adjacent to one lake, but located in the sub-basin of a lake further downstream. Anderson, S.C., is an example of this. USACE Graphic by George Jumara.

Taken along the western side of Rio Grande Village Road, about 0.2 road mi (0.4 km) northeast of the big Tornillo Creek Bridge. This vantagepoint is a few tens of meters/yards northeast of the Part 6 photo.

I arrived at this site none too soon. A few minutes later the shadow evident at bottom had obscured even the crest of this rise. As it was, though, the low-angle light of late afternoon beautifully highlighted the dike of igneous rock cutting through Upper Cretaceous Pen Formation shale and claystone. The Pen beds closest to the dike were cooked into somewhat harder form when the magma forced its way into them. This is a very localized version of what geologists call contact metamorphism.

Also getting its last dose of direct sun is a scraggily cluster of what I suppose is Faxon Yucca (Yucca faxoniana). This species is better known in Trans-Pecos Texas as Dagger—a fitting tribute to its lethally pointed, rigid, and sword-shaped leaves.

As you can see for yourself on Google Earth, in both aerial and street views, the dike actually runs straight as an arrow on both sides of the road. But, as noted in the previous description, I can find no source that identifies its exact petrologic composition.

Did some localized exposure adjustments and added a touch of film grain. One of three hand held images intended for HDR. Didn't like the HDR result I was getting.

Backbone Campaign greeted President Obama in Seattle for a Democratic fundraiser with giant banners above his motorcade and life-like representations of the Washington State democratic delegation.

Simultaneously, people outrage by representatives not yet outright opposing the TPP packed the entrance to the Washington Convention Center where the fundraiser was being held and surrounding streets. A Star Wars themed Trans-Pacific Partnership Death Star was inflated and Rebel Alliance Starfighters standing up for sovereignty, human and workers rights, safe climate, affordable medicine and more greeted the democratic donor base as they entered.

We wanted there to be NO mistake - We the People consider a vote for the TPP a catastrophic, unforgivable BETRAYAL. An unaccountable vote planned for the post election Congressional session would add a cowardly insult to the injury of this disastrous corporate coup that shifts power away from governments to transnational corporations and the greedy who hide behind them. Washington State's Congressional delegation, especially Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and Congressmembers Denny Heck, Rick Larson, Susan DelBene, Rick Larsen and Derek Kilmer need to know they will NOT be able to show their faces in public if they BETRAY the people they are supposed to serve.

Obama's visit occurred during Backbone Campaign's 8th annual Localize This! Action Camp. Thus, we jumped at the chance to put artful activism lessons into action. Enjoy pictures and video provided by Andrew Sigman, Joyce Marin, John P Duffy and Daniel Lee. #FLUSHTHETPP #TPPisBetrayal

Loooking down runway 4 at LaGuardia in January 1970. The tower is at far right. An airplane is liftting off while another is already lined up. it looks like an Eastern is coming up to the hold line. The view is not ideal due to the ILS equipment and lights not to mention the fence. I think the large rounded elements are for the localizer.

Further back a two more 727's are coming.

Back then anyone could walk up to the fence but I preferred the slight rise where the perimeter road is. Plus I didn't feel like dealing with the snow.
