This was an interesting sun free sunset. The weather was very localized in small pockets. Nice and sunny in the south towns, a torrential downpour in South Grand Island, and dry in the north of it. But sunset was not going to happen over the North Grand Island bridge, at least not in the traditional sense. But the ominous clouds provided a pretty dramatic backdrop too, maybe even better then a sensing sun. I will post some more less pre-processed photos later but for starters, here's one of the first ones I shot to establish the scene. I had the Coking Yellow Blue Varicolor Polarizer on with couple graduated ND filters, one and two stops.

I actually gave in to the temptation of the fast moving clouds and set up for a time-lapse and started it off. My 6-years old battery had a different idea though and the camera shut off mid-way through the 6th exposure. I am kind of glad. It allowed me to enjoy the scenery more actively with the second battery as opposed to just hanging around it shooting on its own for 20 - 30 minutes. But still, the speed of the clouds was awesome!
Thanks for stopping by, ...
Oh, and by the way, I placed a note over the very left of the bridge where the mist rises over the Niagara Falls.

This has to be my favorite TRACON photo out of all of them.
The single letters indicate the radar contact positions of aircraft being controlled by Minneapolis Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON). The 'S' stands for SOUTH controller, the dude in charge of the south of the two runways. Similarly, the 'N' stands for an airplane being controlled by the NORTH controller. Other letters signify different controllers in charge of different airspaces.
Usually the parallel runways are being used (12L+12R or 30L+30R). However, at this point in time runway 12R/30L was closed for resurfacing and maintenance, and with winds out of the southeast, they had to use converging approaches: Localizer 17 and Localizer 22 approaches. This is extremely rare. You can see the stream of SOUTH arrivals coming in on the dashed line (heading ~170 magnetic, nearly south), which is the localizer for runway 17. The L22 (Localizer22 ~heading 220 magnetic) approaches are traveling southwest. Below each airplane identifier is L17 (Localizer17 approach) or L22 and the type of aircraft (BE80 = Beechcraft Baron, CRJ2 = CRJ, SF34 = Saab, B752=Boeing 757, A320=Airbus A320).
Small Group Discussion: Localizing Agricultural Value Chains for Shared Prosperity
The world’s agricultural economy exceeds $2 trillion, yet much of the production, processing, and manufacturing for high value food products that could be energizing developing economies instead takes place in developed countries, reducing opportunities for local livelihood improvement and economic growth. Some companies have identified an opportunity to strengthen their own businesses and invest in local livelihoods by keeping high-value processing and manufacturing in the low-income countries where their agricultural products are sourced. Others are localizing their supply chains, ensuring that food products they sell within developing countries are made using locally sourced ingredients. These trends can empower smallholder farmers, strengthen small- and medium-sized enterprises, and mitigate the climate footprint resulting from the transportation of goods across the globe, while at the same time reducing companies’ sourcing and production costs. To ensure that localized supply chains and value chains can function sustainably, businesses must cultivate ecosystems that support this type of business environment and the human capital needed for growth and prosperity.
In this session, participants will:
• Explore the economic, environmental, and social opportunities that can be achieved through local value chains and the partnerships that can make these possible.
• Examine case studies of successful efforts to localize supply chains serving domestic markets and create value chains in low-income countries to serve global markets.

Backbone Campaign greeted President Obama in Seattle for a Democratic fundraiser with giant banners above his motorcade and life-like representations of the Washington State democratic delegation.
Simultaneously, people outrage by representatives not yet outright opposing the TPP packed the entrance to the Washington Convention Center where the fundraiser was being held and surrounding streets. A Star Wars themed Trans-Pacific Partnership Death Star was inflated and Rebel Alliance Starfighters standing up for sovereignty, human and workers rights, safe climate, affordable medicine and more greeted the democratic donor base as they entered.
We wanted there to be NO mistake - We the People consider a vote for the TPP a catastrophic, unforgivable BETRAYAL. An unaccountable vote planned for the post election Congressional session would add a cowardly insult to the injury of this disastrous corporate coup that shifts power away from governments to transnational corporations and the greedy who hide behind them. Washington State's Congressional delegation, especially Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and Congressmembers Denny Heck, Rick Larson, Susan DelBene, Rick Larsen and Derek Kilmer need to know they will NOT be able to show their faces in public if they BETRAY the people they are supposed to serve.
Obama's visit occurred during Backbone Campaign's 8th annual Localize This! Action Camp. Thus, we jumped at the chance to put artful activism lessons into action. Enjoy pictures and video provided by Andrew Sigman, Joyce Marin, John P Duffy and Daniel Lee. #FLUSHTHETPP #TPPisBetrayal

Nodular pulmonary amyloidosis is usually localized and an incidental finding on chest radiography. It is defined as one or more nodular amyloid deposits involving the lung. It usually represents localized AL (immunoglobulin light chain) or AL/AH (mixed immunoglobulin light chain/heavy chain) amyloidosis. A foreign body giant cell reaction to the amyloid is frequently seen.

Comments sent to me:
Looks like "localized cessation of xylem formation" or "discontinuous unidirectional cambia," common in Bignoniaceae. Cross vine is one familiar example. I suspect that it is not a case of total cessation of xylem formation nor strict unidirectionality. Rather, certain small arcs of the cambium, after developing in the usual fashion, shift the proportions of secondary tissues formed, these arcs making much less secondary xylem and much more secondary phloem, resulting in a cross-like pattern.
Asymmetric cambial growth in a woody vine in the family Bignoniaceae. Many species in this family produce this cross-shaped pattern in their mature, woody stems. The darker "cross" is represented by xylem; the lighter colored "wedges" are composed of phloem mixed with parenchyma, produced in four regions where the cambium produced more phloem than xylem.

Environmental Control Systems for Artificial Extensions of Localized Micro-Climates by Brittany Nicole Gacsy
Architecture has a traditional expectation to be a solid, stable, reassuring practice operating on built forms to produce stagnant spatial conditions. By looking at the latent potentials of immaterial conditions rather than the known properties of material conditions there lies the possibility for extreme speculation in the development of new micro-climates that produce artificial extensions through the manipulation of infrastructure and atmospherics. These localized weather manipulations push design to no longer simply condition our environment, but instead seek new territories, landscapes and social interactions through the implementation of climatic infrastructures that extend and manipulate occupation beyond our typical seasonal timelines. Turning away from the hard edge condition of solid forms as the primary organization devices and opening up spatial opportunities that are contingent upon our immaterial energies. Looking at the capacity to design new micro-climates opens the possibilities to image terrains of spatial occupation that were otherwise previously uninhabitable by architecture.

During their final year – known as the thesis year – architecture graduate students research a topic that culminates in a design project. The projects are exhibited just prior to graduation and reviewed by a panel of outside and faculty experts. One project from each studio is identified for Honors; these projects are on view over the summer in the College Gallery.

A Web 2.0 "mind cloud" from NerdWideWeb.
Personally I find the mind cloud idea more style than substance, but the localization into different languages is nifty.
There's a Creative Commons license on this thing so I guess I have to figure out how to tell Flickr about it.

The formin CYK-1 (green) localizes to the Z lines of sarcomeres in C. elegans body wall muscles. Mi-Mi et al. demonstrate that CYK-1 and a second formin called FHOD-1 assemble actin filaments into the
contractile lattice of these striated muscle cells. Nuclei are stained blue.
