DB Cargo's Class 60, 60074 ramps up the power (and clag) as it hauls a rake of empty JEA hoppers towards Plumley West signal box as it makes its way on 6H03 from Arpley to Tunstead to collect another load of limestone for the TATA works at Lostock.
Additional electronic reliability mods were added to 60074 during 2019 by the Class 60 gurus at Toton as part of its return to service after a period in store. This is the first time as far as I'm aware it's worked the Lostock Works limestone flow since then.
The photograph was taken from what was the rail spur to the now-demolished Associated Octel Holford Moss works, which were situated by the line on the right of this picture. The plant manufactured the lead additive for petrol. The works closed in 1985 and taken down soon after, yet a lot of the trackwork still remains.
Dendrobium mine's train loader, Kemira Valley below Mt Kembla, Wollongong. All the coal loaded here is used by the Pt Kembla steelworks, a short distance away by rail.
The load might be easy (think its an Orbiter style ride??) but its a hard life on the gaf for this old Foden 4000!! Flashback to summer 2014 for the Bradford Festival fair.
The Ironton–Russell Bridge opened in 1922 as the first highway bridge along the Ohio River between Parkersburg, West Virginia and Cincinnati, Ohio.[1] Soon, the Ironton-Russell bridge was followed by numerous others at Ashland, Portsmouth, and Huntington. This light-blue cantilever bridge carries two lanes of traffic and a narrow sidewalk.
In 2000, the Ohio Department of Transportation released a report recommended the replacement of the then 78-year-old span. The bridge was retrofitted in the 1970s with strengthening beams and plates. Later inspection of the bridge revealed that these plates had been welded to the bridge using techniques that violated the bridge welding codes and reduced the fatigue strength of primary load members. As a result of these findings, ODOT added reinforcements to some vertical members to improve structural redundancy.
The bridge will still be forced to close when temperatures approach -5 degrees Fahrenheit due to the brittle nature of the steel used. Continuous monitoring is routine during temperatures below freezing to check for any cracking in the substructure of the span. In addition, in May 2008, ODOT placed a width restriction on the bridge, banning all vehicles that are wider than 7 ft. 6 in. Emergency vehicles, non-commercial vehicles and non-profit buses (such as school buses) are exempt from the restriction.[2] ODOT has authorized both the Ironton and Russell city police, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Kentucky State Police, to enforce the restriction.[3] Also, depending on the agency issuing the citation, volators may be cited in either the Ironton Municipal Court in Ohio or the Greenup County District Court in Kentucky.
One of the replacements considered was a three-lane single-tower cable suspension bridge. The final design was chosen in January 2003, however, the high costs of constructing the bridge became apparent when costs for the new bridge came in at $110 million, well over the original estimated cost. The sharp rise was attributed to the dramatic increase in construction costs partially blamed on Hurricane Katrina, which increased the cost of concrete materials and items derived from petroleum products. The bridge has been redesigned as a two tower cable-stayed bridge and has been reduced from three lanes to two. Construction on the replacement span began in March 2012 just upstream from the current structure. The current bridge will remain open during construction and will be closed and demolished once the new bridge is open.

Night at Port Sokhna. I love watching these giant container ships get loaded and unloaded. How it makes sense in terms of where to put what is beyond me.
I thought I would be so fast tonight, but then I got thinking about "missing" and it took me forever to figure out my feelings and articulate what I wanted to say. Super grateful for my uncle who scanned a bunch of family photos a few years ago, they are a gold mine!
Journalling reads:
There are 29 first cousins on my Dad’s side of the family and we were a noisy boisterous bunch. My memories of childhood are packed full of times spent with my extended family: holidays, Sunday dinners, sleepovers, summer visits, many of us were in the same church branch for a number of years. I’m not really close to any of them now, mainly because we don’t live that close, but also with a family that big it’s easy to drift apart. I miss that connectedness. One of my biggest regrets with the life that Darrel and I have built is that we don’t live near our families and our kids don’t have those same close relationships with their cousins. And in fact, I don’t really have close relationships with my siblings either. I don’t think we want it this way, at least I don’t, it’s just that we are busy with our lives, and kids and jobs. But it makes me feel really sad so I should do something different so that I get a different result. The best way to predict the future is to create it, right?!"

With two loaders working to load six cars at a time, filling the train goes pretty quickly. When the 6 car cut is loaded the cars are staged on the loading dock tracks of the mill, including inside. The car mover then spots another set of cars on the loading track.
There is a group I belong to about oops, glitches and mistakes. This was a camera error, or a loading error on the picture from the diskette to my computer. The bird, one of my favorites, Tropic, looks OK, but the wedding ring quilt he was on came out rather bizarre. I have to find the name of that group and post this.
I did this layout for today´s challenge, I used an old studio calico kit I had (Yearbook) from october 2009.
I loved this kit soo much, that I was afraid to do something with it, whenever I took it to work with it I thought that I did not have the appropriate photo or I could find a better topic to use the papers for, etc.. Today, after a year I finally broke that kti and did this page:)
It´s just a reminder to myself to fly high, to dream big and to remember that I can achieve anything I want if I put effort, love and faith to it. A great challenge!! TFL.
