Another one for the 'How-To' Department.
I did a few changes to my Zetros truck last night, including the loader crane, so I figured I'd drop this here - mostly because these things are pain in the neck to build at Minifig scale without relying entirely on click-hinges and having them become completely flimsy.
The gun piece is just there as a placeholder, if you want to make it extendable you need another flange or +Rod piece. And of course the hook. ;)
The upper portion of the crane is based on Bobofrutx's design

This container Bert in Bremerhaven is probably the longest in the world. These days with recession it is mostly empty and the cranes heaviest load is the SUN.
The picture is not taken on a sunday but on the 13th :-)

My second upload today for a weekly challenge I'm doing with a group of Flickr friends. This week's theme is Anything On Wheels.
This so-called "super load" was travelling from Port Melbourne to Loy Yang, carrying a transformer that had been shipped to Australia from South Korea.
I have no idea of the total number of wheels, but the following stats were published:
640 tonnes
101m long
4.5m wide
5.3m high
making it one of the largest loads ever to be moved on Victorian roads.
It was pulled by three prime movers and pushed by another two, each coupled by a rigid steel connector .
I took this time-lapse video whilst the super load was parked at Yarragon, as it was impossible to capture it in one still image. It only travelled at night in what must have been a logistical challenge, with some traffic signals and signs having to be temporarily relocated, as well as traffic diversions for the entire length. On Day 1 it travelled from Port Melbourne to Dandenong South; Day 2 from Dandenong South to Yarragon; and Day 3 it concluded its journey at Loy Yang.

The journaling reads: Who knew when Chloé and Caden went in to the Eastview office in September 2009 that this would be the last Friday-before-Labour-Day they would go to the school office to pick up their much anticipated class assignment envelope. In it they would find the identity of their new teacher, a welcome letter and their supply lists. This year the tradition was replaced with a button on the computer that identified the new teacher. No letter. No lists. Just a button in which they plugged in their student number and out spit the teacher assigned to their next nine months. I think we’re going to miss this particular tradition. It was so much more personal and welcoming than the efficient automated alternative.
It would appear that all of our local public gardens are full of lovely tulips!

In case this picture is misleading anyone, I’ll clarify that the idea with a side loader is to empty the bin into the hopper, not all over the arm itself. I’ve failed this concept a few times in the past and not because I’m a complete retard, rather due to distraction and/or a lack of observation. In view directly beneath the hopper access ladder is a white plastic bag..... this caused the catastrophe. As the previous bin lowered towards the ground, this bag flew out, floated in the air and caught my attention just as I grabbed the next bin. As per usual I hooked the joystick in the back right corner to simultaneously retract the slide and raise the arm, but instead of watching the arm movement in the mirror, my attention was diverted to this flying bag. To my dismay I witnessed the bag come to rest on top of the slide beam and cover up one of the sensors, which resulted in signal blockage and stoppage of the slide retracting.
As soon as I saw where the bag landed, I flicked my gaze around to the side mirror, seeing the slide stationary in the shown position and the arm continuing to raise the bin towards the hopper. After getting a visual of the unfolding circumstances in the mirror, I literally shouted out “NOOOOOOO!!!” in terror, then next thing the bin was inverted with the contents pouring all over the arm and onto the road. Fail. Of course the bin didn’t hold a single bag or two, it was fully loaded with sloppy and badly contained garbage, plus it was raining and a few members of the public witnessed the unsuccessful lift. My mind registered the likely outcome once I saw the bag cover the sensor, but everything happened so quick I didn’t even get the chance to consider releasing the joystick! After a few swear words and brief dissatisfaction over the event, I quickly got some humour out of the disaster and knew this was something worth sharing =]

Tri State Railway Historical Society's Santa Train on NJ Transit sits in its loading point at Wayne/Route 23 Transit Center with two passenger GP40 variants soon to lead the 1:00 PM run.
Coal from the nearby Ffos-y-fran open pit coal mine is washed and processed at the Cwmbargoed wash plant prior to despatch to Miller Agent’s customers, which includes Tata Steel, the cement industry in Derbyshire (Hope) and various heritage railways in UK. In this scene, 66156 loads up with coal at the Cwmbargoed Disposal point for despatch to Port Talbot on the 6C94.
The last load of particleboard to come out of the Weyerhaeuser Springfield Particleboard Plant, Springfield Oregon. At midnight, we changed hands and became SierraPine Particleboard. I do believe the plant was shut down in 2014.
