Missed a couple of days on my 365 project. Been a lot going on. The credit union I work for got robbed yesterday. I was in my office, where a wall separates me from the lobby; oblivious to the gunman looking to score some quick cash. Fortunately, no one was physically hurt, but emotionally, I'm sure there will be scars.
The event didn't bother me so much until today when I reviewed the footage. There were no fancy special effects and no striking musical score in the background and no fancy getaway. No, instead, I watched slightly grainy video, from 5 different camera angles and no sound, except for beating of my heart banging on my ear drums. The guy simply walked in, pointed a gun, took some money, and ran out in 50 seconds. It was real.
Lunch didn't fare any better. I ran into a former coworker at a restaurant. She lost her son in-law this year and found out her husband has terminal cancer and only has months. Her son is in the military and is getting ready to be deployed to serve another tour.
It's been a rough start to the year, but I all I can do is enjoy everything I have to live with and appreciate the things I couldn't live without.
