Het vroegere eindstation van de Linzer Lokalbahn lag een paar straten verwijderd van Linz Hauptbahnhof op een binnenterrein tussen huizenblokken en hun achtertuinen. Deze nogal merkwaardige locatie was bij de aanleg van de Lokalbahn in 1911 bedoeld als provisorische oplossing, maar zij bleef bestaan tot 2005; sindsdien eindigt de Lokalbahn in het hoofdstation. Op deze locatie staat nu hoogbouw.
Exploitant Stern & Hafferl grossierde in tweedehandsjes. De Westwaggon-treinstellen uit de vroege jaren '50, overgenomen van een Keulse voorstadslijn, waren in 1970 een prima aankoop; ze zijn op deze lijn vanaf 2001 opgevolgd door (nieuwe) Stadler-GTW's. De Ganz-locomotief rechts dateert van 1915 en is in 1935 overgenomen van een munitiefabriek in Wiener Neustadt

The former terminus of Linzer Lokalbahn was situated a few streets away from Linz Hauptbahnhof on a courtyard surrounded by blocks of houses and their back gardens. This rather odd spot was meant as a provisional situation when the line was built in 1911, but it lasted to 2005. In that year the Lokalbahn finally was rerouted to Linz main station. On this site is now a high-rise building.
Operator Stern & Hafferl acquired lots of second-hand stock over the years. The Westwaggon train sets from the early 1950s came from a suburban line in Cologne in 1970 and gave good service until they were replaced by new Stadler GTW stock as of 2001. The Ganz-built loco dates from 1915 and was bought 1935 from an ammunition factory in Wiener Neustadt

Lijn 3 in de bocht van de Volksgartenstraße naar de Bahnhofstraße in Linz, met de Neuer Dom op de achtergrond. Sinds 2004 bedient de tram het vernieuwde station Linz alleen nog ondergronds met doorgaande lijnen en is de tram hier bovengronds verdwenen.
Een kleine serviceverbetering is hier al doorgevoerd, wellicht afkomstig uit de ideeënbus voor het personeel van het vervoerbedrijf. Om te voorkomen dat de richtingbordjes per ongeluk de verkeerde bestemming laten zien, zijn ze vervangen door bordjes waar beide eindpunten op staan. Met de twee moderne pijltjes erbij ziet het er vooruitstrevend uit
A tram of line 3 takes the bend from Volksgartenstraße to Bahnhofstraße in Linz, with Neuer Dom in the background. In 2004 this branch was abandoned, when a new underground tramway with through routes was opened under the new railway station.
A small service improvement has already been introduced here: bidirectional destination signs with modern-looking arrows have replaced the traditional unidirectional ones. This solved the problem of forgetting to change the sign boards at the terminus

On five comfy (not!) 'thunderboxes' is centre-cab diesel 2045.02 leaving Katsdorf with the 12.12 Linz-Summerau service to the border with Czechoslovakia.
With imminent energizing of the route forcing the elimination of steam traction it is unclear for how much longer these characterful train formations survived...

Linz am Rhein ist eine Stadt im Landkreis Neuwied im Norden von Rheinland-Pfalz nahe der Grenze zu Nordrhein-Westfalen, rund 25 Kilometer südlich des Stadtzentrums von Bonn. Sie gehört der gleichnamigen Verbandsgemeinde an und ist deren Verwaltungssitz. Linz ist ein staatlich anerkannter Fremdenverkehrsort und gemäß Landesplanung als Mittelzentrum ausgewiesen.
