I've been piecing together a custom desktop running on an old Dell D400 with Linux Mint 11. After a bunch of false starts with Conky, I opted to use screenlets to display a system monitor and weather forecast. I got the the D400 for $30 on eBay. It's a low-end business class laptop, but offers some decent upgrade potential. The original Broadcom card crawls at a snail's pace with the Linux legacy driver, so I pulled out the wireless card from an old T41 that's been sitting in the closet ever since the video chip died. I also swapped a 1GB RAM chip with the 512kb one nested under the Dimm plate beneath the keyboard. Now the Dell is running pretty well, although I'm going to try installing an Atheros N draft card in it next. At some point I might swap out the Pentium M chip for one that's 2Ghz.

Since I'm not taking that many pics this month, I thought that a screenshot of my beloved linux would do it for now (the screen name on amsn is not my real one...I edited it. The IP address is an internal one, so I don't care if it's published)

How to put debian linux on Old Pc. Everything went fine up to the point where I could not get the serial port to recognize the serial mouse. Other than that, the pictures speaks for them self. The PC is a Celeron processor 466 mhz with 512ram. The object of this project is to turn the old pc into a wifi gateway.

We adopted a puppy. Her name is Linux. She's 3 months old,
weighs 11 pounds and is about 12 inches tall at the shoulders.
