One of the two pillboxes either side of the lane crossing the valley linking the small villages of North Aston and Somerton.
The pillboxes lie between the course of the River Cherwell to the left and the Oxford Canal to the right.
Running south from Northamptonshire to join the Thames in Oxford, the Cherwell was one of the many 'stop' lines created to help slow down the expected invasion after the fall of France. I think I've read the canal and river bridges were mined but I'm not sure.
Wet feet for any luckless soldiers today, but it is likely that the river didn't flood as much back in 1940; field and road drainage almost non-existent so rainwater took a lot longer to permeate into the rivers.
The town of Wünsdorf was once the largest military base in Europe. The town was the headquarters of the Soviet forces in communist East Germany and had a population of 60,000 people, 50,000 of whom where soldiers. When the Soviet army left in 1994 the population dropped to just 6,000.
The town’s history as a military base dates back to before World War one. It was the headquarters of the High Command of the Germany army during World War II, and was a garrison town long before the Soviets moved in.
Wunsdorf was a closed town during the time it was occupied by the Soviet forces, and effectively became a Soviet town in the heart of Germany. A daily delivery via a direct rail link from Moscow allowed the town to isolate itself from the surrounding areas, having its own shops, theatre, leisure facilities and hospital.
The Haus Der Offiziere had it's own leisure facilities such as a theatre and swimming pool. A giant statue of Lenin stands tall in front of the central building.

This is the Link I've been working on. Zazzles requested a pic. Should I sculpt the entire torso, or just the belt/strap?
I like capturing some ads against the backdrop of the city street, especially at night
(regretfully I missed the event)
This was along Franklin Avenue, Crown Heights
Barton Park, 6th August 2018, Noted in Uni-Links Compound, three of the first four were noted today.

Glen Orchy, Scotland
It seemed appropriate to post something chilly now that Scotland's finished with its balmy 23 degree days of last week and is sunk beneath inches of snow again!

Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. Christmas 1987 I believe. Before the introduction of various midibus routes in the late 80s and 90s, the London bus network has some quite large holes in it. Consequently for a few years Lewisham Council contracted London Buses, in the form of Selkent Travel, to operate some services from outlying parts of the borough to Lewisham shopping centre in the pre-Christmas period. BLs 36 and 81 did the honours. The previous year I had photographed an LS on this work. In 1989 Michael photographed a midibus on Centre Link work.
Nowadays these points are served by regular buses into Lewisham.
This is the terminus in Molesworth St, round the back of the shopping centre.

Mixed media collage, assemblage. Not sure if I have to somehow knock back the brown blob behind the pewter piece in the bottom right hand corner. I think it is a little too dense maybe.
A link to a lengthy and spectacular day - night transitional tiime-lapse of this to follow soon.
I visited the island of La Palma (Canary Islands) in Oct. 2015 to attend the "Astromaster" advanced landscape - astrophotography timelapse workshop.
This is a view at blue hour (about mid-way through the timelapse) looking into the Caldera de Taburiente from the rim not far from the Observatorio Roque de Los Muchachos, as we prepared for another astrophotography session. The winds were extremely strong and variable and so a long exposure just wasn't possible.
