Raku fired dragon with extra large ears- handmade and kiln fired in Cornwall
This Dragon is one of a limited edition of raku fired sculptures, each one finished with individual and unique features. This little chap is one of my finest dragon sculpture fired with the raku process and using a silica based glaze to highlight the contrast between the rich white clay body and the dark charcoal crazing- although the dragon appears to be covered in cracks, it is in fact completely smooth
Wingspan is 15 cm , height at shoulder is 8.5cm.
Raku firing is an ancient Japanese art , where pottery items are glazed, then placed into a kiln, usually gas or wood fired, where the temperature is raised quickly to over 1000 degrees Celsius. While still red hot, the pottery item is quickly removed from the kiln, and still incandescent, plunged into a vat of hardwood sawdust and chippings where the sudden and rapid drop in temperature causes the signature 'crazing' effect, the smoke caused by the combustion of the wood being absorbed into the body of the glaze itself and staining the crazed pattern with a rich mixture of charcoals and blacks- although the pottery appears to be cracked, it actually has a completely smooth surface. Raku pottery is a singularly difficult effect to achieve, and this turtle , along with its fellows ( Check out my other items! ) is glazed and fired in this manner. I work from a small family owned pottery in Cornwall where my dragons, turtles, tortoises and frogs are fired in small gas-fired kilns before being plunged smoking hot into a vat of charred locally sourced hardwood sawdust to complete the Raku process. The brilliant jade green glaze on this item offsets the dark grey crazing perfectly giving a wonderful and unique finish to this item

Rapunzel is fully deboxed. She is standing, supported by a Kaiser stand. Her hair is behind her back, and draped under her skirt around to her front.
Rapunzel has been deboxed and her hair combed out to detangle it. The section whose nd was tied in a knot got frizzy and came out shorter than the rest of her hair by a couple of inches. The straighter sections are 24.5 inches long. This compares with 12 inches of hair on the current Classic Rapunzel (2017), and 17 inches on the original Classic and Parks Rapunzel (2010-11) and the 2015 Designer Rapunzel.
I got the Rapunzel and Flynn doll set today during lunchtime at my local Disney Store. There were only 8 people entered into the raffle for 14 doll sets. At 1:10 pm they told us that they didn't have to call out names, so we just lined up at the registers in a random order. I happened to be the second in line. I was given three sets to choose from. I picked the first one. Even though one of the sets had a nice number (1133), the first set looked better to me. I took photos of the display dolls while waiting for the announcement. After I bought my dolls, I placed them on a table outside the store, and took a few photos of them. I forgot to take a photo of my CoA at the store, but my set is #4167 of 6000.
The set was released online in the US ShopDisney site at about 12:00 noon PST.

A little known fact about La Mer, but one that the Goldies would be happy to tell you (because they find it hilarious), is that when she is alone in the back yard, La Mer often imagines herself a girl from another planet. I think it is the Mork and Mindy influence that abounds in Boulder. She has seen the Mork and Mindy house, and it left quite an impression on her!
For those of you who might not be up on Mork and Mindy, it was a TV show about Mork, a character from Outer Space, played by Robin Williams, who somehow managed to land in Boulder, Colorado. He was from the planet Ork! His girlfriend, later wife, was Mindy.
