Long exposure of a wintery sunset at the Itzurun Beach in the Basque Country, surrounded with cliffs that extend into the sea.

With no new stuff to bore you with, I'm still peeking through archives and I thought it may be a bit cruel to subject you to another waterfall so here's some WR&S minus the W.

The original is here and processed before I knew what those little sliders were for, maybe it's a tad overcooked?

Even as the cloud cover was thick and the rain was in the air, the fall colors clearly are spectacular right now around the Twin Ports area.

Shortly after leaving Rylstone Quarry with another heavy load of Yorkshire Limestone, 66764 gets to grips with the climb to Taylors Bridge on the outskirts of Rylstone Village.

This was the first of two shots of this working, after a drive down to the Aire Valley main line I caught up with this working at Cononley.

If you’ve not seen, I’ve put a video together of my day out on the Rylstone branch.

The last sunshine I saw, three days ago!

Limestone Karst scenery typical of eroded remains in the Parque El Torcal de Antequera mountain range where stacked layers of rock remain after softer surrounding rock has been dissolved and removed by the action of the weather.

Good morning! Ingleborough is somewhere back there, completely hidden from view in the low cloud.

It might be grey but I love it. Such a fantastic section of pavement. Definitely going to return in the hope of better light.

Limestone is one of the most common sedimentary rocks found in New Zealand. Eye-catching features such as caves, sinkholes and spectacular skyline landscapes are often associated with limestone formations. These landforms have developed through the interaction of rocks, water and climate.

The early morning sunshine starts to break the horizon as it rises from behind the western flank of Ingleborough. The remnants of the overnight frost that has built up on the limestone pavement won't last that long.

i love the texture of the wall. The different sizes of rock and the way they don't sit 100% flush adds to the overall feel of this image. One weakness I have is that I prefer trees without leaves. I like this small shrub but I couldn't get it to "pop" off exaclty the way I wanted it but in the end I was over processing the image and decided to leave it this way. Thoughts?

The lower portion of the Ordovician Bighorn Dolomite on Hunt Mountain in Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains is made up of bioturbated limestone and dolomite. The burrowed carbonate was deposited in a shallow subtidal environment in a tropical sea located along the paleo-equator of the continent, Laurentia. These branching burrows, called Thalassinoides, were made by unidentified organisms. These burrows are a record of biological activity but not the preserved remains of the organism. Such biological evidence is called a trace fossil or ichnofossil. Most of the burrows shown above are silicified. Note the 3 inch pocket knife included for scale. (It is highlighted with a comment box on the photo). The photo also shows green and orange lichens growing on this outcrop.

As its name suggests, the Chalk Hill Blue is found on chalk downland, although limestone downland is also used. This is a highly-variable butterfly and many named aberrations of this species exist. Adults feed primarily on Common Bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus corniculatus).

This male Chalk Hill Blue was seen on a hillside in Surrey.

Another view of the limestone strata on Holmepark Fell with Burton in Kendal and Morecambe Bay in the distance. This rocky limestone upland beside the M6 marks the gateway to the Lake District National Park. The high ground here is a fascinating landscape comprising Hutton Roof, Newbiggin Crags and Farleton Fell. This is always a joy to visit as it is usually quiet with most of the traffic heading past to visit the Lakes and its fells.

You can wander round this unusual landscape in relative solitude most of the time and I will definitely return to explore more of its charms. The village to the right of the small quarry in the middle distance is Holme.

In the evening I biked to Notter for the empty Res train from Almelo and the full limestone train from Flandersbach. This time I explored a new place, which was found by an expedition through some thick woods. After reaching the field, I waited for both trains here. After a short while the train passed hauled by the DB Schenker 1614 from Almelo to Kijfhoek.

The Blair Limestone Kilns at Canoe Creek State Park was part of an early 1900s limestone processing facility, a subsidiary of Jones and Laughlin Steel, that served Pennsylvania's iron and steel industries. The kiln, once eight stories high, was demolished during WWI, leaving behind the cooling towers. The site is now a historical point of interest on the park's Limestone Loop trail and a feature on the state's Path of Progress tour.

The kilns produced quicklime, a vital material for removing impurities during iron and steel manufacturing.

The kilns were built in 1907 and were demolished by 1917, with operations ceasing around 1910 due to high transportation costs, according to some sources.

The Twelve Apostles is a collection of limestone stacks off the shore of the Port Campbell National Park, by the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia.

The apostles were formed by erosion: the harsh weather conditions from the Southern Ocean gradually eroded the soft limestone to form caves in the cliffs, which then became arches, which in turn collapsed; leaving rock stacks up to 45 metres high

Another from the 'Great Ocean Road'....

Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it :-)

I will always try to reciprocate with a visit back to your stream.

I swung by Proctor before work yesterday morning to try and get a shot of the maroon pair. Just as I pulled up this limestone train was approaching the overpass. I managed to catch him as the morning sun illuminated the power and the first couple of cars through a gap in the trees.

Not been out with the camera much since the Wales holiday - DIY, gardening, and a stinking cold all took their toll. Got well up the Dales today but it was blowing a gale. Walked about a bit with the 5x4 but put it back in the car and got the digital out
